BJ75 TROOPY TACHO Issues

Background.

THis is a 1987 TROOPY from JAPAN - imported sometime 20 years ago to Malaysia.
3B Donk and 4 SPeed G/Box and running 24V we believe (going by the wiper motor still 24v) and then converted to 12V and very poorly done.

WHen I bought it 4 years ago it was converted to 13B-T and 12V and the tacho would not work.

WE changed the engine to another 13B-T as the old old was totally stuffed.

After conversion we expected tacho to work - to no avail.

I tried to put after market one on and could get it to work by connecting it to the alternator at idle but it did not move much when we revved the engine.

SO we droped that idea.

NExt was we got the local midget brothers sparkies to look at it (yes two chinese brothers 190cm and 100kgs). THey played and it would not work changed the instrument panel out we replaced the cluster and then removed it and took to their workshop and connected a homemade engine simulator and still it would not work. They also tried to hook up to the flywheel to get the pulse from the flywheel nothing they bypassed the wiring and used their own do see if it was wire failure etc..

The revs counter for a 13B-T engine is of a magnet on the flywheel correct. THe pulse from this will it matter if the power is 12V or 24V ?

ANy clues as to how I can get the tacho finally going as right now the speedo is also dead so I am driving by feel hahaha.

The original 3B may have had the rotary pump. I dont know about the 3B ,but the other rotary pumps had a sensor on the pump (2L 1HZ 1KZ etc).
The pump type sensor needs it own tacho to recognise the signal.

My point is you may need to use a 13BT tacho to recognise the sensor on the flywheel.

The 12v/24v situation is not an enviable one
