I just picked up my cruiser and wanted to change out a few things to get it ready for camping. It has the pto winch and bumbper which I would like to remove and sell to replace with ????. I have seen the ARB bumper and was thinking of driving across the border to Seatle and installing it right then and there. Is there another bumper I can get in my neck of the woods?

The truck came with aftermarket springs, shocks and some suspensions parts. I wanted to move the front axel up an inch and put on some 35's. Is that too big for daily driving?

I will take some pics and post some progress as I go. I will be customizing the interior a bit and putting in some sound and some radios and equipment. I love the truck so far.

It would be good to know how you plan to install the roof rack. I'm in the process of working that one out myself.

Yep have a look around there are a few good buildups going on around here.

It is debatable whether 35's are good for daily driving, they make the ride a little better, i like the way it spreads out the gearing on the road, but you also have to consider fuel economy which i dont think it makes that much difference, and the tyres performance, for example decreased stopping ability. Just some things to think about.

As for bumpers the arb one is good if you can find one in the US. Over here in aus they are pretty abundant, my friend recently got on for $150, non winch bar but great condition.

Moving the axle forward is easy, and i would reccomend you do it even if you dont run 35s.

Welcome to the sight, you are sitting on a gold mine of information here. If you got the access to a welder I would consider making your own bumper, the one I made for my BJ74 cost me about $300 when it was all said and done. I run 35's with the stock 4.11's as a daily driver on my 74 and it works out great around town and allows you to cruise at higher speeds on the highway but it really powers out in the hills.

Mileage has suffered only slightly. I did 23mpg with 33's on my BJ74 (my BJ71 does 23.5mpg on 33's). I went down to 21mpg with 35's

I am assuming this is a RHD JDM unit running a 24volt system, so you'll need a good power converter. Depending on how many accesories you plan to run you may want to consider a solar converter. Here is a couple links to check them out

I had a 8472 winch with bumper on mine with dual batt..(you realize this thing is all 24v)I found there was to much weight in the front end so I removed everything and made a one piece steel bumper and it made a big difference...

Do you have cable lockers on your unit?

I'm now looking for a 24v winch in the 8to9000 lbs range that I can mount in a
2" receiver front or back.I also have a 2.5 " lift from ome...rough so I remove one leaf at the back...might have to remove another one.

hey nice ride! the 74's are super awesome!

in regards to the yellow IPF lights, yeah there is a funny voltage converter or somethin there.. my spotties were not hooked up to a relay with the high beams.. so they are independently turned on/off.. not too safe when you gotta flip off the High beams and the spottie toggle at the same time.. if your is the same, def. consider putting in a relay while your at it..

those lights are friggin good aswell.. great for HWY driving at night (well mine are anyways as they are the flood type) they really light up the side of the road for kangaroos etc and make it real easy on your eyes for long drives at night.. keep those if you can, as i reckon the High beams on the cruisers are pretty good for distance..

I forgot something. I was thinking of building a front bumper like this one. Looks like he keeps water in it. I was going to put veggie oil for a conversion. Was thinking of welding two aluminum baja tanks together. What do you think?

Sorry to hear about your misfortune with the radiator.

I spose you can take it to a radiator specialist and see if they can flush and fix it. If that doesn't work ask them to solder the
leak or recore it. Cheaper than a new radiator. If the radiator guys is a good bloke he will get you fixed as cheaply as possible.

What part of the cooling system are you losing water from?

Dont worry these things happen. It gotta spend the best part of a grand on a new clutch next Tuesday
