And how do the 1HDTE and 1HDFTE compare?

I thought the newer factory turbo/direct injection versions would be a better engine than the 1HZ, so always assumed that a newer version would be a better replacement than a 1HZ when mine eventually blows.

each to their own, i don't like direct injected engines. i like the old 1HZ, it has grunt, great fuel mileage...
i have owned a number of direct injected Toyota diesels over the years and i don't like the driving characteristics... at all. that is the MAIN reason i stick with the IDI.
also
through mine and others mileage returns the DI TOYOTA engines return poorer fuel economy than the IDI TOYOTA engines.
plus
i will put a 1HZT up against a HDT anywhere, anytime in any conditions. the 1HZT turbo will respond better, hands down.

once again, each to their own (newer doesn't always mean better)

Looks great Clint, though I am biased as I have the same rims on mine

it definately gives it a different look than the other 1 million cruisers with the white spoker wheels.

Here is a bit of an update on my daily driver, I just purchased some IPF X900 spot lights, rubber flexy flares and Outback door pockets on each door.

I have removed the side drop down panels on the rear tray temporarily, but it looks pretty neat without them, I think even the pooch is happy with the new additions

Some picks of the weekend at Cobaw State Park.
Not saying much but the hardest tracks I've ever done. The picks aren't the greatest but I'll have to get the co-pilot to work on her
photo technique. My mate's wife took a good video of my cruiser in action that I'll post when I get it.

were did you get a hold of the side pockets i wouldnt mind a set to

Thanks Clint, The pockets came from ARB, or you can order them direct from Outback. They are easy to fit only 2 screws and backing plates, they are designed to go forward more on the door. I chose to put them back a bit to keep them out of sight. Because of this I had to drill one hole through the inner metal door skin to allow the screw clearance.

Next mod another under tray water tank......that should take water capacity to 60 litres

Who makes the Outback door pockets and how do thy attach? EDIT. Ok ARB ,I should have read further down.

I thought about having canvas that came all the way down to the tray and getting rid of the sides on my old steel tray.
But I wasnt sure about things sliding around.
Its sure nicer getting things out without having to lean over or removing the sides

Hey Rosco,

Cobaw Ridge State Park is 15km East of Kyenton. Its about an hour drive from Bendigo, where I live. The are a few places off road. There is Lederderg SP, Wombat SF and Fryerstown SP (Havent been here yet but looks like there might be lots of creek crossings

) Cowbaw was great and really tested out my skills and my cruiser. I did find that the BJ74 was lacking in articulation. The vid of me driving the deep rutts and washout shows limited wheel travel.

Wombat state forest is all of 20 minutes from here. Be bloody careful and take a winch.

You may also need a snatch block or two and a couple of tree trunk protectors as you regularly have to winch at 45 to 90 degrees off the angle of travel (using a snatch block)

Looks good up there, havent been up there myself. Suspension can be fixed pretty easily

Yeah ,I had a look in the maps. Ive been to Lederderg and Wombat and around that area but in those days I didnt have a 4x4
You have to travel all day nearly to get to that kind of terrain over here.

There are some challenging tracks around and one that I didnt go up as the guys with 35's were bashing their diffs on the rocks.
I'd had a good day and didn't want to end up stranded

Do you have names of the hard tracks in Wombat or the area their in. The ones I've been on weren't that hard. If your going out to
Wombat I wouldn't mind tagging along some time if that's cool.

Heh, I can't lead wombat anymore. I sold my 73 w/lockers years ago. Wouldn't know what's hard atm it varies season to season depends where the DSE bulldozers go. Usual best bet is anywhere on either side of the creeks that run through the middle, and closer to bacchus marsh is tougher as it's heaps more vertical.

My 75 is NOT a trail rig, it's a daily driver and workhorse. I wouldn't take it on anything tougher than your third picture above, and even then i'd be goin slow.

Building a pirahna atm (offroad buggy, 2wd) for stupid forest fun.

In the second pic the track looks a bit tight. I've seen chunks taken out of the trees and bits
of car left on the side of the track on some trails. Also blocks of rubber from the tyres

I've come out with no damage so far.

Are you running 80 series rims mate?

The rims are made by Volk, they look similar to some 80 series.
