The DRMO auction is shady when it comes to these trucks and Sparky only got to bid on it after he raised some hell ask to why it mysteriously didn't come up for auction. It's got a nice custom fabbed bumber in the rear similar to an 80 series designed bumper and a 4x4 labs front cut and turned 80 series front axle with difflock and difflock in the rear. He already has a Kentucky title for it for when he rotates out of Okinawa. Future plans are a Toyota diesel.

Rolling Thunder and Desert Thunder are good names for Operations too I saw that Forest Service one. I wish I had the money to snatch up everyone I had seen in on the Auction in the past!
I especially enjoyed being there and taking the pics and can't wait to finish my BJ-44 once I'm done in Iraq. You guys down under must have some strict enforcement of the laws concerning Mods. They do in Japan too but Okinawa is Lax on enforcement and you can always find somebody to look the other way on inspection/registration.

I like your front bar and lift ! It seems alot of the short wheel base models do not have side steps? did they get damaged and you removed them or are they not released with them ?
|
heh, yeah a little mj, but that hat saved my bacon when I was in the tropics...Thanks for the link!
Front bar I made, ( still only half done) side steps, when I got it, one of them was missing, and the rocker on that side is a tad funky...I have a replacement one to put in, but not for a while yet. ( lazy, too hot out. )
The steps seem to rust about as badly as the rest of the body, so they're often rotted away around here.
Poor old thing is basically just the highway bitch for back and forth to work, that's about all it sees.
cheers,
ryan

Here is my daily driver prep'd for the road trip to CMCC'09. Once I got to PA, I pulled the all-terrains and put on the swampers for the trails, then reverted back to the A-Ts for the trip home.

Wow Toyota tape deck
All I got was a lousy radio ,the same as they used in a 60 series with updated buttons.
Is that the one from Purely Commercials?
Its hard to say with the lift. The stock suspension is crap so I would be looking for another anyway.
Try Malaga Suspension,he is good for Dobinsons

When i was cruiser hunting called past purely commercials looking at a 79 the bloke denied 100% it was not from the mines then i explained a few point outs of ex minners then agreed then denied it was ex underground ,everyunder body of underground utes id seen looked identical to this one same corrosion style rust on all chassis diffs bolts ,every vehicle ive seen there are trashed covered in black paint and it really bugs me that some poor bugger will buuy it and have problems.
He got it from a mob behind wangara toyota
he got prices around $4200 for a 2" lift and 2" body lift, so i said weil go see my mate colin at malaga springs for some dobs ,2g for springs etc and $600 for a body lift
In the later pics with his new rims it has the 2 in spring lift but not body yet

Why doesnt he just go for a bigger spring lift? I think you can go almost 4 inches on a 79 series

i think a 1" body lift would be better than 2" body lift , it dosnt rub now so it dosnt even need body lift but i think he is chasing "looks" 4inch spring lift cost a lot more dosnt it?, because you need to buy diferent drop arms to avoid death wobbles etc ?

chasing "looks"?
cruisers are funtional and should also look the part.
nothing looks worse than a huge gap between the fenders and the tires...so chevy or ford...
if it doesn't rub then leave it alone... well in my books anyway.

The downside to body lifts is you have more sway between the body and chassis. This can cause squeaks and other annoying noises.
Im with Crushers,Chevvy or Ford owners
Function is beauty. If you dont need need it,it looks crap IMO

Yep gap i think it looks the worst seen a 3" body lift the other day on a 73 looks like you could dive through it
you also need to adjust raditator mounts or something with B.L's ??

I gave my cruiser a 1" body lift. Was easy as. Only had to change the negative battery cable from the batteries to the block
as it was to short. I think it looks better that way. Not as squaty as it was before. I kept the rubber cushion block under the
body/chassis mount bracket and have a poly block on top between the body and mount. Still lets the body flex. Works for me.
I will be able to fit 35's if and when I want to. A town and trail set of rubber is on the cards.
2" and over and there are a few more mods to do. The radiator shroud and gear shifts have to modded and possibly a few other things.
Front mount:

A 1" b/lift is a good option and leave much of the OE stuff in place with no mods. I'am with Boogie74, done allright you should not have any problems IMHO.

Nice rig Lulo, The soft tops is a very scares model it seems to me. How do you flip down your windscreen, as my wipers are in the way. I can not move it more than half way down, futher it may damage the wiper arms.

the wiper arms for the soft top are double jointed at the bottom allowing them to fold down and out of the way...
talk to Dave at Japan 4X4 and he will find you a set.

Here is my truck, have figured out what i want to do with it now, engine/tranny/transfer are coming out and I'm either putting a low kms 1HDT in it or a newer 1HZ. If I go with a 1HZ then I'll have the R151 rebuilt by Marlin crawlers, If I use the 1HDT then the H151 will be fine.

Not sure what I'm going to do yet, I like the idea of the direct injection and the boost compensator. Not fixed on it time will tell.
