LJ78 Air Cond Recharge?

My air conditioner is a bit weak and I could use some advice on recharging, What coolant, which connection to tie in to? Thanks for any help.

Does it have r-12 or 134-a? Charge to the LOW pressure side only! Mike

I don't know what refrigerant is used, and was hoping for advice on which is the low pressure side.
I could guess, but I thought maybe someone knows.

They are marked red and blue with H and L on the caps.IF ITS BEEN CONVERTED the fittings push on instead of screwing on.Screw on was for r-12. Mike

There are screw on caps, a red on the steel line about 6" away from the compressor and a black (or very dark blue) right on the compressor. No writing on the caps.

I presume red is high pressure? I received a flyer today offering 12a refrigerant, "designed to replace R134a and r12 freons" . Do you know anything about that?

Red is high.I think you need r-12.Should say on the rad.support. Mike

You're right. Amid all the Japanese characters it does in fact say "R12" So all I need now is to find some.

Mike, In the flyer I mentioned, it says the "Environmental Regulations require that the R12 must be removed by a qualified technician", which suggests that R12 is no longer available.

Do you know if this is true of if there is any technical reason why the two cannot be mixed? Technical as opposed to legal. Thanks

r12 is no longer manufactured. you can reuse what you have, but You do not need to remove what you have just install some more. red tec , dura cool and others are all available. A kit will cost you around 60 to 90 dollars here in canada. Just add a pound and viola everything should be fine.
the new product work with whatever is in your system. I actually was told that it is a mix of propane and butane. It also has the required oils to lubricate the system. You can even get a sealer to help prevent very minor leaks.
the fitting will only fit on the correct low pressure line.

If you did not do anything yet, get a kit of DURACOOL... this is compatible with r12 or 134a...

In this kit you get a can of sealant and 2 cans of freeon..I know its not a permanent fix but it will get you through the summer without problems a may last longer..otherwise you will be looking at big bucks depending on what is leaking in your system..another thing is you cant get r12 anymore so you will be stuck using r134a...doesn't work as good as r12.
