Malaysia - Chengal Tree Trip

Just some quick pics of the weekends trip to CHengal Tree (pronounced Chengai ) which is the biggest tree in West Malaysia.

We revisited the RFC 2008 route from the first 2 days which we as officials we not allowed to progress too :( - now we have done it.

1 LC II SWB - 22R :(
1 LC II LWB - 22R :(
1 LC II LWB - 14B-T
1 LC II LWB - 13B-T
1 Hilux Surf - 3Y :(

THis obstacle the first after about 1k is awesome and sort out the men from the boys

Sebastian stuck on the rock at the first obstacle. We winched him out and up to saftey.

Paul in DAFFY at the rock - damn this thing is stock and it makes most obstacles

Me In RED stuck on a rock on the way to the tree. YUp I also got 3 new dents from this rock

Musa in TYSON climbing the bank by mistake Damn lockers are good hahaha.

Me being winched at the river crossing at camp after stopping to take pics of the convoy crossing the river :(

The others crossing the river safley .

TYson with its new look door after the tree fell on it at camp.

My first words after this were to Adzhar - "I guess I have to cut you a another alloy door panel I don't think I can straighten that one"

Paul in DAFFY hung up on a V-Gully crossing.

DAffy on a log bridge - check the right front wheel where it is on the bridge

Daffy coming down a drop off.

Jason and the kids in the SWB geting crossed up.

More pics and VIDEO coming.

What a great trip

By popular vote RED has been renamed DOZER after this trip. I has many new scars after this outing.

Hi All:

"Cicak," looks like a great run! I'd would have loved to come visit you when I was in S'pore a couple of years ago!

Regards,

Alan

COOL pics!! The truck on the log bridge makes me cringe, you can't ride the edge any closer than that.

Buddy we are so used to it it no longer matters unless its dark we have learned to trust the guide monkey here so much that anyone can usually guide once they have been taught the skills of watching every wheel and being fed information verbally from other watchers and passing this to the driver with signals only.

Nite time well thats a different story.

More pics and video being prepared.

Pic of the big tree coming I have over 800 pics and 2GB of video im going through so far.

There were no injuries when the tree fell on the door. However camping gear exploded everwhere as the collapsing tree scattered stuff and tore 1 of the 2 tarps we were to sleep under. We were very very lucky. PS we put the door back in in the morning and hacked the window frameout and it was driven home.

Remember to look when camping to make sure nothing is going to fall. This is not the first time this has happened here.

More Pics 1

Me climbing the CHengal Tree root.

The remains of the tree which landed on TYSON destroying its door.

Paul and me at Sg Loh bridge tossing a winch cable at the Mekanik. In RFC 2008 the water was over the roof of RED and at the base of the bridge the pic was taken from.

Sg Loh at the Chengal tree crossing and our camp site. So clear is the water you can see the rocks in the water at the other side.

Camp site at Sg Loh - the tables are from our neighbours who spent the wekend running around in their undies - not sure why or if they belonged to the show your undies cult.

Another pic of RED in trouble as it happily likes to be.

The chengal tree - 11 meters arond its trunnk most of the way up year its rather big.

Musa on TYSONS roof for photo platform.

Video we still sorting out.

I hear ya, but not all guides are created equal. Looks like this one could have done a lot better job keeping the driver centered on the bridge.

Guide was me and the HILUX was the widest vehicle in the convoy. LOG on the far right was rotten so we were trying to avoind it and place wheel completely on nex log and since he had really wide offset rims just follow the log with the last set of lugs on the left log as if he dropped it would be to a nice log on his left. THats called experienced guiding. Also the SIMEX XTs will flex enough to get/keep grip even with that little grip .

I will see if we havea video of it.

THanks. Tough crossing very soft river bottom probably more suited to BFG AT's as I found out with a really simple small mistake. Looks easy however you can only cross it 6 months of the year. rest of the time you would not have a hope.

More videos on the way of our trips.

I will find a way of posting the full 40 minute DVD on youtube soon in pieces.

The TRee by the way is 1300 years old.
