i always like the Land Cruiser for the rugged good looks, once this look changed to the more modern "mall queen" appearence i lost appreciation.

would i drive one? probably if it was given to me. but given a choice i would rather Toyota stuck with the old.

i have not seen many 100 series so you might be right, the new look might be more 100 series than 60 series but it sure looks 60 to me.

Hello,

The look is in fact much like the 100 Series, especially when viewed side by side.

One thing is certain. The original 70 Series front lines, which were based on the 40 Series, are now gone. I miss the front fenders and the angled front.

I have not seen mid wheel base models. Are the FRP/rag top and the folding windhield gone too?

I agree with Crushers, looks very 60 series to me, not at all like a 100 series, more to do with the line along the guards, above the tyre, and the size/shape of the whole front on the new model without the sperate guards and smaller bonnet section of the old 70 series.

...but nothing like 100 series in my opinion...

Yes ,all gone. Folding windshield went in 98 in oz but hung around for few more years on the HZJ74 in some markets

looking at them now i would say the smoothness of the 100 series bonnet meeting the headlights and grill is a lot more similar to smoothness of the 70s even the lumps look closer beside the intercooler vent whereas the front of the 60 bonnet could be a water fall to the grill ,the front 100 an 70 bumpers look alot closer obviously being both plastic and larger with lights in them than the straight metal railway track 60's bumper BUT the higher line on the front fenders of the 60series rockets look quite similar maye they should have called them the new 167 series

The mid wheel base had a charm of its own, with or without the top.

Hopefully I will find a used one in good condition.

Buy my 1985 BJ73 from me. It turns 25 next month (if it hasn't already... I need to go check the plate on it) and will be ready for LEGAL EXPORT to the USA. I'll be posting an ad in the Classified section shortly (as soon as I can give it a bath and take some more pictures). In the mean time, here's an idea of what it looks like.

I've taken a new trayback 70 series for a bit of a spin - I like them, certainly not lacking for power with the V8 and I've see a few 76 series wagons and traybacks that have been lifted and bigger tyres fitted, they look pretty impressive. They now come standard with driver and passenger airbags, only problem is that they're pretty expensive, nonetheless I'm looking at buying a new 76 wagon next year.

Here's a couple of pics of a trayback 70 series owned by Tuff 75 on Outerlimits here in Oz, chipped, tuned, new exhaust I think and a bit over 200 hp at the wheels.
