Lockrite locker install Help LJ - 78

Hey guys, got my front and rear locker and a axle seal rebuild kit for the 91 LJ78.

I want to do the rear install first and need your guys help. I've never opened up an diff before and don't have a manual, anyone have any experience or more importantly pictures of how to install this locker.

Want to do it myself to gain the knowledge and also save the money.

Howdy! My LockRights came with good detailed instructions and pictures. Didn't really need anything else to do the job. Are you real sure you want to use a LockRight in the front? I have one in both axles, but I dont' really recommend it. There are some definite trade offs. John

Hey RHD. All you will ever need to know is all at one site.
Go to www.gearinstalls.com . I have never talked to or delt with a person more knowledgeable about toyota diffs then Zuk.
It is not that hard to install lockers. I have done a few with great results. Just rember to have a minium of 100 ftlbs of torque on the carrier bearing adjustor rings while keeping the 5-7 thou backlash.

As for the front diff locker I guess I'll see if I like it, my trucks and auto, I think that helps to disengage the locker.

My biggest problem is I don't know the names of the parts of the diff.

anyone know what diffs I have on my cruiser, I don't know which locker is for what diff. I'm assuming that the package with more parts for the rear.

let me know if that rights as I want to do the rear first.

Also do I need and spacing gauge or something along those lines.

Just go to www.gearinstalls.com. Read every gear install for at least one week. Then I hope you will be ready. If you are not sure email me and I might be able to walk you through it. If you are using lock rites the rear locker for the rear is a # 1620. Your regular set of feeler gauges will work fine (the ones for adjusting valves ect..) It would also be great if you could get your hands on a dial gauge to set the backlash. There are ways around it but your set up won't be accurate. If the set up is not good, you could hear lots of noises and your diff will need work soon after.
I do not mean to discourage you but ther is no point installing it if you can't do it right.
You can remove your diff and send it to many reasonable people to install the locker for you at a reasonable price and they will do a great set up with a warranty.
I'am not a drywaller and I pay some one to do a good job at my home, I hate to pay them but I think it would bother me much more if I had to see my bad job that I did every day because that is not what I'am good at.

Appreciate the advice, so maybe I should take my diff apart and send it out to be done, makes sense
