13-BT Factory playmate
Hi guys,
I normally hangout in the 40 series area and with the diesel heads however I have a question that you 70 series guys should know off the top of your heads. I am doing a restore of my BJ40 while living overseas. My original plan was to swap out the B engine and H41 transmission for a 13BT and an H55f, thereby adding more horsepower and boost, making this rig something that can drive on the highway as well as the trail. However the cost of shipping the engine and tranny here just prohibitive and I shelved the idea until I return to the States. A visit to a local salvage guy today reopened my plan of to swap. He can have the engine in a week but was not sure about the H55f. Part of the problem is how the trannies are inventoried in the warehouse. He catalogs them based on year and model of vehicle not part number as that is how he gets them in the container from Japan. He has lots of transmissions and in really good shape but he only knows by year. Question From the CruiserFAQ section 5.5 th 13-BT ws originally on a 70 series cruiser from 87-89 ( 84-90 in Japan) and under section 8.1 the H55F basically was used from 83 onward to maybe 90. But under engines listed as being combined with the H55F no mention of the 13-BT on the chart. Dont confuse it with a 1HZ gearbox which also has 21 spilines but longer. You can also use any H55f that was mated to a 3B. Most of the aussie 13BT had a H55f but most of the Japanese models were auto. To find the one I would count the spine you can tell a H55F from H41(2) because it has an extra section about 4 inches between back of tranny and transfercase, once you see one you will be able to spot them. Cheers, Michael |
