TLC, I have found lots in OZ, 30 and 50mm, shipping is a bastard though.
Wayne, pretty sure the front springs are different, they are not as wide as the 80 unfortunatly.
Pink, ya it does hual ass pretty good - not done yet though - still have some more work to do

I'm trying to find the OME application guide - was online - it has the part numbers for the springs - that should tell. It'd be nice if they were the same - but I still don't like OME anymore - junk.
Found the dobinson application chart - no 79 part numbers match the 80 part numbers. Pretty sure they are different - the 79 springs are alot narrower.

I used to ship to Canada as well as OZ (from US) and I believe the prices are crazy but I think it is more of a canadian thing than an OZ thing.
I can get stuff from OZ pretty cheap.

Do you have a recommendation on spaces, like a brand or 4x4 shop?
Cheers,
Michael

Yep, I looked in my Dobinson stuff first, I was hoping it was just the wire size or length but they are differnt diameters as well. I really want to keep my stuck spring just want a little more height in the front so it is level (I don't want to remove leafs in the rear either, I like that height).
Thanks,
Michael

Thanks for the offers guys, I'll take someone up on it after my vacation.
TLC, I have found a few shops that sell the spacers, Snake racing have them but only in 30mm, I want 50mm. Best case is I buy 3 inch lift coil springs - do you have them?
I had to get rid of the rear springs - the mining springs were nuts - although I coult carry another cruiser in the back.

i dont think you can get 50mm coil spacers for 79 series, you'd need to get them custom made ,but check out 4wd1.com they deal tough dog suspension. and are the real deal..snake racing are expensive but have a fair bit of variety..theirs superiorengineering.com aswell you could look up..im here to help .

I do not have any 79 series kits, Dobinsons does make some nice springs. I must say I am very happy with the stock varible rate ones on mine, they even have rubber casing around the coils if they do bind under extreme wheeling or load (I am impressed with them).
So rather than be lazy, I spent some time last night looking for the spacers. I did find out some good tech infor on them:
Outside diameter on them is 140mm inside diameter (hole) is 100mm. Compared to the 80/105 series they are 160mm outside, and 115mm inside, so definetly different size. I also could not find a cross to any other cruiser or any other 4x4 period :(
I was able to find 10mm and 30mm thick ones but nothing over that. I would seriously be concerned with 50mm thick if it did not also have lockdown bolts into the spring cup, 50mm I think will put the spring to far out of the cup and could be a safety issue.
Cheers,
Michael

Thanks for the research, I agree about the 50mm, makes sense. The stock ones on mine were pretty beat, they had a hard life and all the plastic was tatered and coming off. A new truck of course would be just perfect - but mine is almost new now
I'll probably just go for the 3 inch lift springs, tough dog, dobinson or something. I just want a good one that I can get a good shipping rate on. The 3 inches will give me the tire clearance I am looking for. I might even move the axle forward an inch as the 36'
s rub the fender where the mudflaps attach under flex.

Winch test
Ok, so I wanted to test out my winch locally before I head out for some more seroious play in the next couple of weeks. I had narrowed the drum to 1.5 inch solid stock, and lengthened it 3 inches, I did this to increase the pull power and fit more masterpull rope on.
So I went to a local spot not far from where I grew up and used to wheel my FJ40's and bogged it down pretty well, deep clay, lockers engaged and all that. I had just enough cable to get to a tree and left only about 8 wraps on the 1.5 inch bar. The guys on the australian board said that there would be too much load on the rope with a 1.5 inch wrap and it would break from the sharp angle - I had to see for my self. I use a double clove hitch to attach the rope to the drum - it holds like a vice and you can easily get it off when you want to.
I didn't use a snatch block, I only used one battery and kept the other isolated, and am still using the 2AWG pos and neg cable to the winch - haven't put the 4/0 on yet. Winch motor got warm and never stalled.
You can check the video, seems to work fine under a big load - 36 X13.5 TSL's and a 5600 pound truck over the bumper in clay, clay over the top of the driver side tire. You might notice in the video that front locker disengaged - the winch remote cable hit the locker switch off - this will be fixed shortly with a dash mounted winch switch as I hate the warn remotes.
The 8274 kicks some butt, other mods to come - new 4.5volt winch motor just arrived, drain and fill plugs - that's good for now. Hardened brake shaft and freespool lockout next year.
Oh, and I brought my 2 boys - they had a blast!
Here's the vid, you can watch in high res on my site or on youtube in high res or low res:

Yes, we have a lot of active members, we also have monthly trails, family outing, jamborees & club day. Sadly, I'll be leaving soon for Canada..... Hope to meet you when I get there.
Remember I asked you on how you brought your 79 to Canada? Coz I plan to bring 2 of my Cruisers over...
You can find those rims at Ebay-Australia.
Thanks,
Kelly

I'll ask Elbert Tiu about the brand of the snorkel he used on his troopy on our next club meeting. I used Safari snorkel on my BJ42, which is also located at the right side.
Thanks,
Kelly

Ah yes - I do remember - what part of canada are you coming to??
I was at an 4X4 club twist off today, tried my truck on the ramp, got an RTI of 508, not even close to the suzukis but it was fun to do. Limiting factors - front tires stuffing into the coil spring towers. More than enough articulation for me though.
