US Source for 78 Series Shocks?
Anyone know of a US source for shocks for a 1991 LJ78 with stock ride height?

Why dont you just go down the road to your local 4x4 joint and buy some ? just measure the lengths of yours and get some that are right for it

Becuase the truck is in Japan and the local 4x4 joint is in SoCal. This is a vehicle I'm buying for my move overseas. Consensus from those in Okinawa (where I'm going) is that car parts are much cheaper here in the US.

Are you sure they're cheaper over here? I've gotten Toyota parts shipped from Japan from to Canada and even with shipping it was cheaper than buying over here. Try and PM Japan4x4 here on mud and see what kinda prices he can get you. He's in Japan so shipping would be cheap.

Considering there is only a dozen LJ78 or so in the US ,there is not going to be huge parts base or the competition to lower prices. ARB are the best bet but they will probably have to order them in and they wont be "standard" shocks. Standard landcruiser shocks for the older 60 and 70 series have often been sold by dealers for $40 ea in the countries where the model was sold __________________ HZJ75 cab chassis 95 model ,stocker FJ73+1HZ Diesel NEW GEARBOX 1HZ =same power as 3F with 30% better fuel economy 2in Dobinsons lift.Powerdown adj shocks 33 in BFG A/T HJ61 with slidin windas regrettfully SOLD:(Volvo 740 GL |

I wouldn't wouldn't get my fanny feathers in a bunch about getting aftermarket shocks here in the US for the Prado in Okinawa.(I'm not saying you are)
When you get to Okinawa and you actually find out that you do need shocks, there will be plenty of opportunities to buy OEM shocks at the local junkyards and base recycling yards. Dave at Japan4x4 is a good resource for new OEM and he can help you out in that area. Rancho does have shocks for the Prado. I'm sorry as I can't recall the part numbers to answer your question more directly. If someone here can't reply with the correct part numbers for the shocks, I wouldn't worry about it and head over. You will find what you need there as well. __________________ Randy 71 FJ40 81 HJ47 Troopie 82 BJ44 13B-T/H55/Cable Lockers 86 HJ61 VX 12H-T/Cable Lockers (Now my parts Cruiser) 92 LJ78(Sold) 96 FZJ80 Locked Coxwell-59th Alabama CSA |

RANCHO makes the 5000 and the 9000 for the LCII LJ79 prado.pretty sure the LJ78 will take the same part number...you can double check with the dealer there befor you order.
PART NUMBERS RS5000 Front.RS5158 Rear..RS5144 RS9000 Front.RS99158 Rear..RS99144 You may want to check with ARB reg OME as well. I would advise NOT going with the original toyota shocks ....they are useless. __________________ 96 LJ79 Prado |

I personally witnessed it. The shocks were virtually useless offroad and so were the springs that went with them. I have heard good things when they are fitted to 60 series __________________ HZJ75 cab chassis 95 model ,stocker FJ73+1HZ Diesel NEW GEARBOX 1HZ =same power as 3F with 30% better fuel economy 2in Dobinsons lift.Powerdown adj shocks 33 in BFG A/T HJ61 with slidin windas regrettfully SOLD:(Volvo 740 GL |

They are real cheap to buy i'll give you that...but if you look at the durability they may not be a cheap alternative in the long run. __________________ 96 LJ79 Prado |
