About to buy BJ70 need help

I am about to purchase a Toyota BJ70. It has leaf springs in the back and coil springs in the front. The engine is a small 2.4L turbo diesel. What I need to know is following:

1/ Can the rear leaf spring be converted in to coil spring?
2/ Which engines are a bolt on replacement for this body? I need a bigger engine, probably at last 3.00 L + Turbo diesel

3/ How stable is its handling in high speed off road situations? My primary use for this vehicle will be off road high speed rallying and I am concerned that the rear leaf spring maybe too hard for this purpose.

Any feed back/ help will be much appreciated.

Regards

It sounds like you're looking at an LJ70 not a BJ70. A BJ70 has a 3.4l naturally aspirated diesel. The 2.4l turbo diesel is found in the LJ70 as are coil springs. I thought the LJ70 had coils all around though. The BJ70 has leaves all around.

There is a guy here in Guatemala with an LJ70 and he does some pretty amazing stuff with it.

It should be coils all round or leaf spring all round. Unless you are looking at a much later HZJ71 99 on which have coil front and leaf rear.

The best engine to replace a 2.4 woulld be a 1KZ T 3.0 litre

I should have my hands on it tomorrow or day after latest. Will take pictures and post them here and hope that one of you guys can identify it accurately.

My first aim is to replace all the bushings, leaf and coil sprints, shocks. Looking for an ARB set up which I would prefer to buy from the US. So would need help with part #s and all that goods stuff.

I have spoken to few friends of mine, and they have advised not to convert the suspension. Keep it as is, front coil springs and rear leaf springs.

The alpha numeral code which identifies the model is on the firewall.

If you need parts or advice try asking this guy ,he is very helpfull and manufactures some parts for landcruisers in Pakistan
He may know where to get the parts you need in your own country

roscoFJ73: thanks for the info.

Finally took delivery late this evening so could not take pictures.
I will post the id code tomorrow and hope that you guys can direct me in the right direction for suspension system.

Turns out that its not bj70 but LJ71, SX5. I have no idea what is the difference between the two.

Also will contact Ehsen. Thanks for the tip.
