Roof Rack options for the lj78

Looking for a rugged safari type rack that can take some weight as well as be functional, anyone know of any good units here in canada, more specifically Vancouver, BC

have you seen the quick n easy mounts for rain gutters? The enable you to mount just about anything you want up there.

Then you can make a rack out of tube aluminum and bolt it on to the mounts.

There is a guy in the diesel classifieds selling a rack on his BJ60 that is custom and all aluminum. It could easily be adapted to a LJ78

I used two sets of Thules; one I had kicking around and a second set off ebay for $100. Then I had a simple rack welded to fit; 60 inches long, using 1 inch square tubing with expanded metal bottom. total bill about $600. Check out the rack(s).

If you're going to be putting any weight up there, do like ARB and run a steel channel inside the gutter to spread the weight over the entire length.

Also if ARB are available around there I can strongly vouch for their racks.

I've used aluminum racks in the past, and they tend to crack, and being aluminium hard to fix. Atleast out in the middle of nowhere you can use a stick welder on a steel rack

the quick n easy mounts sell for 75 bucks. I bought mine locally at a canoe shop. You can use anything you want to make cross bars. Or make a basket the width of the truck and bolt it to the mounts. this is what they look like....

they are cool rims and second hand not too pricey but I had to put 1inch spacers on the front to keep from rubbing the tie rod ends. Still turned out only a little more expensive than new steel rims.
