89 BJ74 from Japan
Hi, new to the site.
I am interested in picking up a BJ74 and came across this one from KKtrading:
http://www.kktrading-aurora.com/LAND..._BJ74_6174.htm
Has anyone dealt with KKtrading and what was the experience like?
With not being able to see the cruiser before buying, what are the things to look for? Ie, what questions should I be asking about the cruiser.
And does anyone have comments regarding the BJ74 in the link.
Cheers and thanks!
Kevin

Otherwise the truck looks nice.

I got my BJ74 through KK. I think it may have been a little over priced but I had not found "MUD" yet for advice. I got what I was told although the small dents *2 were not small upon arrival and Both batts were fried but possibly by transport drive and my mechanic that did out of province inspection. New batts, as large as I could wedge into factory space, I highly reccomend were about $300, plan for this expense ahead of time. Where are you located?

I bought my 91HZJ73 from Kohei(KKtrading) and was pleased with the service, they go over the truck fairly well, had many new parts installed before shipping ,brakes, batteries, all belts including timing, all fluids, filters, they also went over front hubs, installed running lights, offered muffler but I was planning turbo anyways so would redo it when it was installed..
Only thing I found was whiring sound when releasing clutch when upshifting the tranny, but still have not managed to figure out what it is,otherwise its a great running truck.

Kevin, one thing I would do is ask Kohei to send you some closeup shots of the rear inner door sill on that truck, the plate holding the carpet down looks to be painted primer red, usually chrome.Ask him to give closeup shots of the sill and pull up the carpet for a shot of the floorpan, his trucks are usually rust free. The frp roof might also be suffering from the usual paint peal in photo..

whine when upshifting under clutch release for me was two things...
a heavily heavily dusted rear right drum (cleaned it out and fixed the problem)
a worn idler bearing on the input shaft through the clutch/flywheel assembly. replaced that too.
no more noises not guaranteeing it's the same for your truck tho!

Thanks for the info, I have sent Kohei an email for the requested pics.
Did you use an importer to land your Cruiser for the all paper work, inspections, etc? And if so, who did you use?

Hi Kevin,I did all the paperwork myself. For the inspection I had the company that does our work trucks do it,brought the truck to work for a quick look over, change headlights and to see that everything checked out ok,then dropped it over to them for inspection.
Entaran, thanks for the tip, unfortunatly I am stumped at what the noise is,to date I have replaced the clutch pilot(spiggot) bearing, release bearing, all bearings in the tranny and transfer case, and it still does it,clutch was also new, resurfaced flywheel also,I have taken the truck to several tranny shops and all said it was pilot bearing related,so replaced another one but it is still makes a noise.I have a feeling it might be a out of true input shaft.I hope to run into someone also with a HZJ 73 and see if it is a common sound, its very faint but bugs me..

Here is a summary on the BJ74 from Kohei:
"Total landed cost to New Westminster, BC - 1,098,000 JPY or around 9800 Cnd.
The following is what we will be at least doing on the vehicle,
* Inspection by our mechanic * Engine oil changed
* Oil filter replaced * Brakes fluid changed
* Power Steering oil changed * Fr/Rr Diff oil changed
* Transmission oil changed * Transfer oil changed
* Clutch fluid changed * LLC (Long Life Coolant) changed
* All Belts changed * Undercoating
* Clean up inside and out * FR/RR wiper rubbers replaced
* Front Brake pads replaced
* Upper and lower radiator tanks replaced, also radiator core and
radiator cap replaced
This one runs very well and is in very good condition for the 18
year old vehicle.
It has minor rust on between rear right mad flap and rear bumper, and minor scraches, paint damage on the FRP top. There are no leaks, and all belts and fluids have been changed out. All the electrical components are working well. I don't think there is something that doesn't work."
Any comments on the description?
Looks good to me, but I don't have that much experience with importing.

Here are some more pics:
Question - Why would they paint this back door sill red? Should this be a concern?

From the pics its only the screw down strip that holds and protects the carpet edge.
It would be easier to replace then hide.
I think it someones weird sense of color
