Help with my LJ78 prado

Hi folks i,m new to this site and need some urgent help or advise.I recently bought my first landcruiser lj78 92 2.4 td efi lwb prado 100,00 miles which i bought as a non runner and was told it needed a new ecu so i bought a ecu fitted it and after a few turns it started with a bit of black smoke but it had been sitting for a year. Then it stopped again and i can,t get it started again. It has had the air filter fuel filter and 2 glow plugs replaced but still won,t start. Was told by the last owner it would shudder and produce black smoke whilst driving after a few pumps on the accelerator it would drive normally. Then it completely stopped tried to start it again for 10 mins and it started then ran fine for a couple of days then stopped again and hasn,t started since these are the symptoms i was told by last owner just hope someone reconises these symtoms.I know the cylinder head was replaced at 87000miles.The last owner said the fuel pump had been checked and was working fine but cant be sure about that.Any advise appreciated as i have limited mechanical skills as far as deisels go.

did you change the fuel filter?
does it run while you are rapidly hand pumping the pump?
did you crack the injector lines to see if there was fuel coming out?

the injector lines go to the injectors, a 17 mm wrench and crack the lines a 1/2 turn, crank over the engine and see if deisel spurts out...
