Is that going to be the right height for a regular trailer or are you going to have to get one of those height adjustable towballs to fit into the hitch?

MMmm. Nice

I'll stick with my 55 dollar, 12 tonne bushmaster recovery hitch. Goes in the 2 inch receiver and has a REALLY big bowshackle on it

:( I'm really really interested in how it turns out.

I ripped my tray off my ute it's literally only got a sheet of steel on the back now and instantly got over 2 inches of lift outta the rear suspension and dropped fuel consumption by 2L/100km because I don't have the airbrake on it!

I really really want to see how yours turns out.

SOME PROGRESS!
  • Rear Hitch in place
  • Gusseted
  • Rear Shackle angle revised
  • Front Hangers in place
  • Front springs hung

The mating of the hitch to the chassis could not have worked out better, looks grouse and i reckon its plenty strong enough.
Changing the rear shackle angle was a sinch, air arc and a steady hand. Has made the rear end flex heaps more already.
The front spring hangers are tacked into position appx 2.5" - 3" further forward to allow the 37"s.

More work to come later i hope

Got a fair bit done today but my camera decided not to put out so i have no pikkies.... Ill take some on monday

What i did

Finished mounting front springs (bastard of a job)
Mounted new rear springs
Cut mounts off rear diff
Bolted rear diff in SOA (haven't welded perches on yet as i have no transfer to work off)

Then after all that and working with a perfect 45deg shackle angle i decided to flex the springs up a bit to see what id get.
Instantly the front and rear shackles rolled back and hit the chassis and got stuck there....

Whats the deal? are my shackle angles all wrong or are standard shackles no good working at 45deg?

sigh... so much work yet so little actually acheived..

ahh anyway on a lighter note, worked on my mates car today also (time stealing whore!) and we got it totally ready for the mud guts and glory.

Catchyas there!

Yeah those springs are too long I guess, you can correct that with longer shackles though. Had those issues with my truck after a year of hard wheeling, and would stick the odd time while driving, had to jack it up and go. Yours looks a lot worse, since the body isn't even on. I added an extra leaf to mine to fix it, but you could add longer shackles, or reweld the frame shackle mount further back.
Cheers,
Deny

keep the shackles and move the hangers back a bit to correct the angle - shackles that are too long tend to flex sideways a bit on the road and make handling sloppy. Nice welds by the way!
