No it won't work. Not worth a damn anyway. Your RF output is polarized. You will basically have no ground plane and IF you did all of your radiated energy would be going straight up. The only thing worse is an antenna that is bent over in an arc. Your SWR goes through the roof and you can actually damage your output transistor(s) by transmitting this way. (If you do want to tie one down when traveling through thick brush the smart way to do it is to mount the antenna on the front of the rig and flex it backwards. Thsi way branches tend to push it down and slide over it instead of hooking underneath and pulling it up as you go under.

The antenna has to be vertical for effective transmission or reception.
