Easy fix for skipping/grabbing windshield wipers
My wipers have never (until today) worked well. They've skipped. I replaced the rubber inserts - OEM worked better than aftermarket, but still they skipped. I replaced the wiper relay with a lower milage used one...maybe it helped, but probably not. Didn't want to spring for new wiper relay rods, so just lived with the skipping. Irritating though given how much it rains here in Seattle...
A few days ago I read a short post (by Pluton) with a suggestion to make sure that the wiper blade is perpedicular to the windshield. Hmmm...that kinda makes sense...a few quick tweaks with a pair of pliers and now both wiper blads are perpendicular to the glass. Just drove in the rain today for the first time since making this "mod" and they work perfect! In a way it's a little thing, but since I use 'em so often and it was a free fix, it's even sweeter. Ya learn something new everyday! Props to Pluton for the great idea! __________________ Doug G Seattle, WA TLCA#12671 1994 fzj80, 275,000 miles, 285X75/15, Billy's, dual batteries 1987 fj60, 310,00 miles, 3" lift, 33X10.50's BFG MT, dual battery, rear drawers, CB, tuffy, , lockright, 4.10's and H41 soon Last edited by lovetoski; 05-23-06 at 07:50 PM. |

we are just now getting our first big storms in the northwest.... pavones (southwest) has been drenched for months from what I hear
rained a few inches this weekend. that's not a typo. didn't measure with a guage, but there was a bucket sitting out by the cruiser that has about 5 inches of water in it now. was empty this weekend. be prepared for mud, mud, and some mud __________________ 91 fj80 w/ 93 1HD-T. i don't thgink aftermarket(non oem) wiper blades work well perpindicular or not. I think i read that 80 series wipers blades are different lengths or something like that and wouldn't be surprised to hear that the 60 series are different from passenger to driver.

no, not worse than last year (so far). In fact, overall, we've had a "dry" rainy season. But "dry" here is still a matter of several inches per storm....
I've got a buddy who flies down to Drake and that area pretty frequently, I'll ask him what the weather has been like. __________________ 91 fj80 w/ 93 1HD-T. Actually be careful with Toyota wiper blades, within the past year or so Toyota got CHEAP on their blades. They are no longer high quality like they were in the past. I now go to NAPA for my blades, they are a direct fit for the 60, and come with new screws (as does Toyota). The quality of the NAPA blade (made by Trico) is IMHO much better than the Toyota part. i have exact fits and they work perfect
the only problem i have is that middle spot that never gets wiped unless they are on high go figure eh __________________ "there is a principle which is a bar against all information, which is proof against all arguments and which cannot fail to keep a man in everlasting ignorance- that prinicple is contempt prior to investigation" h. s. another convert to the church of latterday swank, a subcult of Shahrislam |
