So it's been years since I owned a cruiser. My first being a 1990 62 series that, at the time, I had put my heart and soul into. With a fried transmission, it was parted out never to be seen again

Inevitably, the day would come where the stars aligned and the right truck would come to me. I had found "Number 2".

I work at a local shop, and being the new guy, i have to sometimes shuttle people back and forth while their car is being repaired. A couple months back, i spot an old 62, white with wood panel vinyl, and instantly i fall for it. Low and behold, a few weeks ago it was pulled from it's carport with a."for sale, $750" sign, so of course i take a look.

The story of Number 2.

The woman who owned the truck is the first and original owner. Bought new with 3500 on the clock. Wood panel vinyl and factory roof rack with chrome runners. Gray interior. Driven by her and maintained well up until 2000. Subsequently, driven by husband ( now ex) and driven into the ground. 4wd doesn't engage and front drive shaft is in the cargo area. Sat untouched since at least 07, (last inspection expiration), because it couldn't pass emissions.

So i haggled her down from $750 to $560 with a $50 tow it was now in my name, at my shop.

She does run with secondary fuel, (carb cleaner). The engine is sludged up pretty good, but once she's running off gas, that will be taken care of down the road.

I replaced the fuel filter, pulled and cleaned spark plugs, along with 4 ounces of seafoam in each cylinder. The motor is suffering from severe blowby.
Drained the fuel tank, poured through about 2 quarts of isopropyl alcohol. Still wouldnt start. No fuel pressure from pump.

Number 2 is getting there.

I also attempted to clean the throttle body but there is a lot of caked in oil. Of course, my state of mind is "restore as you go", so everything was well clened before reassembly.

The air filter is a teq filter and really clean, so it stays. Plugs will get replaced later on. First things first, get her running.

The tank i will drop and clean. Pump will be soaked in alcohol and placed back with new sump cover. Access panel for pump will be fabricated in the mean time. If pump doesn't work, easy to replace. ; D

Now to wonder about the sludge and 4wd.

4wd I'm hoping is just the solenoid gone bad. None of the lines appear to be compromised, either that or the actuator.

I love it when cruisers' are saved and not parted out. Don't give up! You have a long road ahead of you but it will be well worth in the end! Good Luck

So after many weeks of not being able to do anything to Number 2..... She lives and breathes fire once again. for the first time in 7 years, she finally ran on her own power.

but the problems have yet to stop there.

when attempting to drop the fuel tank. I broke the fuel pump bracket and had to get a replacement. A/C clutch is intermittent so for my drive to Texas, the belt will be removed.

there is a good bit of valve lash/ ticking from the valve train as i believe that the oil pickups are clogged. maybe i can snake through them with some wire and free some of the gunk to allow for oiling. Thoughts?

After a lengthy time away from the forum, much has been done to the old cruiser.

I had run into more issues of course. None were too much. Master cylinder was full of nasty gunk, so I completed a full rebuild with Aisin parts. Cleaned the reservoir, and honed out the cylinder.

Got my hands on a free set of BFGoodrich A/T KO. They have about 4 to 5/32 left, so they will get me to Texas....... Oh yeah, I'm moving to Texas. She will be getting there.

Replaced the front brakes and replacked the front bearings. The races looked good so I didn't need to replace them just yet.

Finally figured out how to disengage 4wd. Thank you to Edwin from The Land Cruiser Specialist.

My last FJ62 had been sold because a trans cooler line was blocked and the trans overheated. So I installed a reasonable trans cooler..... It's actually pretty big, but I refuse to have a repeat. Rodney Flush done at the same time.

So she's all registered and gassed up for the drive.

Also, through some research, I found that my once thought factory roof rack is actually one from a Grand Wagoneer......... Oh God, not J(H)eep parts on the cruiser. :crybaby:
