rear cargo area panels
I have heard there is a thread related to replacing the stock cardboard rear cargo panels. Couldn't find it. I'm thinking of doing some wood paneling with some sort of access door. Just wondering if anyone had done anything like this already.

I havent done this in my 60, however I did do it in my 55. I used the old one as a template to cut a new one out of 1/4" fiberboard. I cut it about 1/4" smaller all the way around so I could cover it with marine carpet. No more than a job. The end results were really good.

This would work.
I'm thinking in terms of a sliding panel door.

I did that, works good.
I used the originals as templates for aluminum sheet, unwrapped the edges of the vinyl and spray adhesive the whole thing on to the aluminum, wrapping the vinyl around the aluminum so it looks original. I welded hinges to the aluminum and then used sheet metal screws to fasten them to the floor (under the carpet, you can't see them) The hinges are nice but the panels only open about halfway because of the rear wheel hump. I think a L shaped catch would be better than the hinges. Flush compression latches on the top just hook on the sheet metal. Nobody ever even notices that they are there.
Its great to have all that storage.

Ok it is only a bit below freezing and my dog is all warmed up from his idea of wrenching, so I took some pictures.
Everything looks dirty cause of the flash, in the light everything is neat and clean
First, my dog wrenching, then the crapy pics.

Umm, they're called bungee cords, they're good for holding stuff
Actually, yeah, those are the best thing I've done to the cargo area, no more stuff sliding around.
You can see some stuff strapped to the side in this pic

Thanks for suffering the cold to make some pix. much appreciated. I like the dog. Can't imagine working on my truck at below freezing. I'm Just a wimp from the deep south. Just got back from wading in the ocean in FL where it was in the 70s. Not to rub it in or anything.
Any more of these types of fotos from anyone whose done this are most welcome.

Nope, that's homemade. Although, I would suggest buying one from just about anybody rather than making your own.
Unless of course you are looney and have to do everything yourself.

i used my old cardboard ones as a template to cut new ones out of 1/2" plywood.
i covered it with one of those industrial carpeted floor mats, like the ones you see inside a store, to wipe your feet on. 36" x 60" at the depot, and it did both sides. 19 bucks.
use vinyl carpet adhesive.
if it ever stops raining here, i will take pics of that AND my new Iron Pig bumper setup

i put speed nuts ( threaded clips) where the push in plugs would go, and used flat-head sheet metal screws with finishing washers. lits of screws, but i dont need to open it up often.
