Okay, I finally found a reasonable pic of the turbo setup.

Specs,
Stock Exhaust manifold
stock intake manifold
To4 turbo.

Wastegate is on the right.

Have you run this?? Take a look at the book called "Maximum Boost". It gives lots of turbo advice for gasoline engines mostly (like your F/2F). I used it when I turbo'd my BJ60 and my daughters FJ55/3B.

I am currently running this setup in my FJ40.

I am going to build one similar to this for my FJ60.

They work great..

Bingo- me too!

Mace- How do you compensate for the added fuel needed at upper RPM's? It doesn't look like you're going to be running an intercooler, why not?

Did your MPG increase with this set up?

Mace,

Do you think that you could draw up a price for making some of those turbo pipes for 2F's? I would do it myself, but I do not have a welder. How much would it cost?

Well, I have run it at 108* plus temps without issue. And I have run it down to about 30* I have noticed no ill effects of temp on the turbo.

since the 40 that this setup is on runs on propane with 40's 1 ton axles and deals with pretty tough trails I can say this. I can typically wheel most of a good day on 7 galls of propane.

If you look at the setup the carb is basically "upstream" of the turbo. Meaning the carb never sees boost. only higher Vac numbers. because of that I do not need to adjust the mixture for increased boost. The more air it wants the more fuel it gets. The carb does not know if it is on top of a 4 cylinder or a 454..

from below the carb to where it hooks to the stock manifolds. You let me know what it costs, and I will pay.

Where did you source the blower?

Basically- we need a list. What is fabbed, and what stock parts we can use.

Do you know how much boost you are running?

ok found the turbos for 400. Which T04 do I need. Then I will just need a waste gate and piping to attach it to the manifolds.

Personaly I would go with a T3 or T3/T4 hybrid. The T4 takes a bit long to spool up.

external will probbaly fit better. Mine is external.

You can get reasonable T3's for ~ $100 used (what I am going to do) or $300 new.

Adjustable wastegates (in cab) will be a cool thing too.

But what about the manifold (?) that bolts the turbo to the exhaust manifold, and the carb to the turbo? That seems like the most important part.

The best thing to do is for me to remove the one I have and have another made (cast preferably)

I am going to make one out of a T3 flange and a stock downpipe.. I'll take pics tonight and show you..

Yeah, I've been talking to some friends of who have extensive engine knowledge. Not sure, with out hav with out having a spare manifold set to fab it up. It looks like he is using a holley 4bbl. So basicly we need a piece of tubing from the bottom of the carb to the commpressor inlet and another piece from compressor outlet to manifold inlet. Of course with proper adapters. Then an adapter from stock exhaust manifold to turbine wastegate inlet and then from turbine outlet to exhaust system. Airfilter will be easy.

Intake from the compressor to the carb takes some bending or cutting and welding, WHich carb plate you need is dependant on which carb you intend to use. Mine is set up for a holley baseplate (then converted to propane) But the next one will be running a TBI unit.

THe adapter to the intake manifold is a simple square plate (copy the pheonolic spacer)

Exhaust is a common flange to whatever exhaust size you want. My 40 has a 3" system. But the 60 will have a 2.5" exhaust.

I have a spare motor that I am specificaly building to be turbocharged (new cam and a bit stronger oiling system)

If you have a friend with a bender it would be pretty easy..

What are the performance characteristics? Would like to know what a little boost does for a healthy 2F.

ok - total noob. I understand how the turbo itself works (i think), by increasing airflow - but what's the waste gate for? and how do you adjust the amt of boost?

2 more q's

will a stock carb work decent for this? does it require higher cfm?

and how do you build a "stronger oiling system"?

thanks!

theoretically a stock carb would work for this application. However, I have never tried it.
The system I have was designed to run a holley 460 4 barrell.

THe wastegate is designed to limit boost. Basically what it does is bypass the exhaust gasses around the turbo when you have achieved the desired amount of boost.

There are a couple of ways to improve the oiling system. One is to actually drill and tap the block so that the oil pump feeds to both sides of the motor at any given time.

Is this a full t04 turbo, or the t04/t3 (intake/exhaust) that you've mentioned as a potential setup?

You know I am interested in any parts you have made- most interested in the adaptor to bolt the turbo to the stock exhaust manifold.
