intake help needed

I just got back from the mechanic and I have a warped intake and exaust manifold. He said it would be 700 for parts and another 500 to install. Does anyone know if I can buy an aftermarket or should I go with factory. It is a 1983 Fj60 2F motor. any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Aftermarket intake, rare. Aftermarket exhaust, plentiful: I prefer the MAF 6-2-1 ceramic.

The 2F in my 83 died, so I have all kinds of parts off it, including the stock intake & the MAF header (modified for the air pump pipe).

shop smart(Cdan is the resident OEM parts guy) and you can get a new OEM set of intake and exhaust manifolds for a bit over $500. There are no aftermarket intake/exhaust except a header or similar.

or you can mill your warped manifolds down.

or find a used set.

There is the Offenhauser intake. Lots of headers available, too. I would take the current parts and see if they can be corrected and still fit the truck - that way, at least you have someone checking your boy's work. Not saying a mechanic would cheat you, but I heard it happened once.

If you have all the parts, you can do this yourself. Think of the staisfaction. Think of the $500 in your pocket for some cool cruiser goodies...

I got a full set off ebay for about $40, replaced all the heat riser gaskets, checked to see if it need milling and slapped it in.

Also have bought a number of used parts from

http://www.cruiserparts.net/parts/fj60.html

and never had a problem with anything from them. They currently list the parts:

Intake Manifold 81 - 87 No warping/Cracking etc. $150
Exhaust Manifold 81 - 87 No warping/Cracking etc. $150
Intake w/Exhaust 81 - 87 Get both Manifolds fully assembled $250

Have also seen the offy manifold on ebay, but it has been out of production for a long time I think.

the pics i have seen have the pcv hole, i guess that's what you mean by smog legal. the aftermarket headers are the part you need to double check for the egr pipe adapter.
