Im trying to protect my trucks ass a little. Anyone made, or have pictures of, a tube arrangement that goes between the rear of the rear wheelwell openings and the front of the rear bumper? I have a 4+ rear with dual swing outs and want to be able to protect the sheetmetal in that area.

I've been pondering the same and my thinking is to trim the quarters so the part that attaches to the frame is perpendicular to it.

Shots of what came with the SROR bumper. They are tied into the frame and have saved my tail end countless times (not the tailpipe so much....).

Good luck

SROR closed a year or two ago IIRC. Too bad - I like Jim & his work.

I don't have a picture from underneath so I'll try to explain.

It doesn't attach/touch the body panel /lower quarter sheet metal at any point. At it's midpoint there is a tube/brace that goes under the pinch panel and bends up. On the end of the tube/brace is a square plate, with holes that match existing holes in the frame. Using Grade 8 bolts, it bolts to the frame.

Due to it's attachment to the frame further up from where the bumper attaches to the frame it also adds rigidity to the rear bumper and the swing-out, there by giving the entire bumper a much more solid feel (as seen in the pic) and of course protects the lower quarter.

That's very nice. Thanks for the explanation. I may reconsider trimming my quarters.

Another option. Just a set of Trail gear sliders cut in half. This way they match my sliders

This is the rigidity I mentioned...If the protection is to close to the body panel and/or not tied into the frame solidly, when the full weight of the truck is placed on the rear bump and/or impacts into the protection it'll push the protection into the delicate body panel... When I've come off rock steps, shelves, etc and the bumper/protection takes the load of the truck it's nice to know that it can handle the weight.

Good luck on your build.

there is another picture around here that shows basicaly 1/4 fender sliders that cover the area between the rear tire and teh end of the vehicle. I've been looking for the same... I'did a little improvemetn on my right rear 1/4 panel and a friendly tree . I understood that (red line land cruisers) (I'll check the name is going to make these, as I've asked a few times about them. I'll post link up to the pic in question if I find it and the link to the guys where I've asked about the "sliders".

See first pic on 2nd link...this is what I'm looking for.... Red Line said they were going to make these, but I don't know when they will get to that point in time.

I posted another comment in teh old link....

got tired of removing my taillights and smashing up the rear qrts. this is 3.2mm galvanized diamond plate steel. Dude was a wizard to get those body lines bent in there! Now, we just plow through the trail!
