Recommend a Cruiser Mechanic in your area

Lots of travelling cruiserheads and many new owners would like to locate a reliable mechanic in their area, or know who to go to if they have a problem on the road.

It has been suggested that we try to establish a sticky thread for people to make personal recommendations for a mechanic they know well and with whom have done business.

Please provide:

City (or County) & STATE
Name of Mechanic
Phone number
E-mail

Let's try to get some solid recommendations for our brother (and sister) Cruiserheads.

Mike S

Gary is well known and respected in Northern CA, and gets customers from other states as well. He has done quite a bit of work for me, and for others on this board. Highly recommended.

Bobby's a very skilled mechanic. I think he's been working on Cruisers for almost 15 years... he's very knowledgable and has a great shop with plenty of equipment to get most of whatever you need done. He runs a shop called The Cruiser Company, and they work exclusively on Cruisers, 4Runners, and toyota trucks.

David is an experienced and honest mechanic. I have no problem telling anyone to see David with any problem on any cruiser. He regularly sees early 40's all the way up to recent model 100's. Check his site for more information.
I have been both a customer and shop employee. My dad takes my mom's cruiser to David.

ARB recommended these guys to me to have my gears and lockers installed and they did an awesome job. I know it's a Jeep shop but you will be surprised how many Land Cruisers you'll see in there.

I know there a lot of guys that hate MAF but I had them do my clutch and it finally got fixed. I initially chose them because it was a couple of $100 cheaper and a friend of mine now works there. I have never driven a Cruiser that shifts this smoothly, it was finally right.

Mark is the guy who usually works on my truck, and is a great guy. I trust him implicitly to do a good job, be honest with me and treat me fairly. On more than one occasion he's charged me far less for labor than he actually performed on the vehicle. Very reputable shop and all the mechanics there are of Mark's caliber. Also a Honda and Subaru shop, but they do specialize in 'Cruisers, I usually see quite a few in the parking lot and other bays when I'm there.

On the other hand, don't EVER go to a place called Downing Street Garage, @ 401 Downing Street. These guys would hardly give me the time of day when I was stranded near there shop and did nothing to help me with my predicament.

#1 Toyota of Gastonia
About 20 minutes west of downtown Charlotte/Exit 22 off I-85
Ask for Brian Barcon - Tell him Andrew sent you
(704) 824-7777
Have serviced four vehicles with Brian over five years, never a bad experience. Clearly costs more to go here, but its done right the first time. Plus, I've never run into any $1,500 front-end brake jobs, etc. (i.e. no BS)

#2 Toyota Techs
About 15 minutes south of downtown Charlotte/Exit 90 off I-77 (Carowinds)
2788 Hwy 21 Business
Ford Mill, SC 29715
(704) 377-9333
Heard good things for a while about these guys and finally had some service done there earlier this year. Reasonable prices and good job.
