good wrench
Terry at S-Wings (aka Wings Stuff) resurected my new 83 fj60 from the dead for a reasonable price. I've seen him work on everthing and get it right. This guy was born with a chrome wrench ib his mouth. Look for him if you are in need the Denver area.

Bill Lee formerly Bills Toy Shop is incredible. Unfortunately he moved to Silver City New Mexico (only 2.5 hours). He specializes in LC's and is a ASE/Toyota master mechanic. His number is 505 534 3400. I know most of his Land Cruiser clients in Tucson still make the trek to see him....truly the most honest and competent mechanic I have ever met......no association.

Mechanic in Bellevue, WA
My 1985 FJ60 had a clutch master cylinder fail on a road trip up here in the Seattle area. Greg's Japanese Auto in Bellevue did a great job of fixing it quickly. They may not be the cheapest place but they do have a loyal following of asian car owners as I checked them out first. www.gregs.com
In San Diego, I take it to the Truck Shop on Miramar Road. They have done a ton of work on this vehile as it was neglected when I bought it. www.sdtruckshop.com

I've also mentioned The Truck Shop (sdtruckshop.com) in this post I think. I just had some work done there before Christmas, and James is very honest whenever I take my Cruiser to him.
I've seen some of their custom tube work and it is very nice. I might have him build me a front bumper...

Cruiser Shop in Tucson
There is the Rey's Toy Shop in Tucson formally Bill's Toy Shop. Rey's does a sweet job on the more newer models of cruisers. However due to Bill's retirement, and moving on to New Mexico. There is Stuttgart Auto Haus. Primarily it is a German specific shop. They have just opened up a Japanese specific option, and have two professional mechanics that do anything from Toyota's to Subaru. They even have a courtesy shuttle service, and towing if you break down in the middle of the desert. Very reputable service,a little pricey, but reasonable, and they manage to do a great job,and the vehicle doesn't leave until it is heavily inspected.

Keith at sunrise toyota is a factory tech... does great work and has been doing it for awhile.
Mikes off-road is rebuilding my front diff (first time I've used them) and they come highly recommended from everyone I've talked to. The guys there have worked on fj40's and fj60's so they know their way around 'em
yoller at me if you need more info on them... they are both in the phone book though.
and if you want any help on your tan beast I know just enough to be very destructive and I work for barley pop

Has anyone seen this? I'm wondering if this experience is unique, or if there's trouble in them fields.

I think there is one or two Cruiser mechanics in the Simi Valley area (in addition to MAF). I have yet to research this.....but if I needed major work I would look into it..........

cruiser mechanic in San Francisco?
Any experiences with a cruiser-savvy mechanic in San Francisco proper?
I know about Mudrak up in Sonoma, but not realistic to go that far except for major work.

Phoenix, AZ R&L Automotive
Rob over at R&L Automotive is a great guy and has done nice work on my 81 FJ60 and 84 FourRunner. He has Yoda blood and owns an older FourRunner. He's on the northwest corner of McDowell Rd & 52nd Street in Phoenix, right next door to Circle K, across 52nd street from the Army National Guard. 602-685-1567 • 5134 E Mcdowell Rd, Phoenix,AZ 85008

I'm still looking for a good mechanic for general engine work, but a GOLDEN WRENCH for tansmission/transfer case work and the like is this guy and his crew:
Tim Moye Transmission Incorporated
17414 Us Highway 41 N
Lutz, FL 33549
(813) 909-8337
These guys just rebuilt the transmission in my 89 FJ62 and I can't say enough good about them!!
They're in the Tampa area of Florida if anyone needs a top rate rebuilder...this is the man!!!!
Here's a link to the post here on mud for a reference source:
