Depending on what you need there is Gary/Mudrak in Sonoma and for fabrication Luke/4x4 labs in Grass Valley. It may not be down the street from you but that's life with an older cruiser. I wished I lived closer to both of them.

hum county 4 me too

Same here. Don't go to Harper's. They don't know how to find a early fj40 temp sender in a late model fj60!!! that cost me 170 dollars to have them tell me my temp gauge in the dash which works fine was bad.
Complete morons that have been reported to the BAR.
Dave.
Oh yeah I know all about Mudrak's. My(Her) 60 is east of Sac right now & I want to know of there is a good diagnostician in these parts.

South Puget Sound, Washington?

I was wondering if there is much interest/need for a cruiser mechanic in the Olympia/Tacoma/Centralia area. I am in Olympia and am thinking of starting a little on the side work out of my home shop. I work at a GM dealer in town, but would like to eventualy open up a Land Cruiser/4WD down here. Tacoma is the closest, but not many just Land Cruiser places.

short answer is YES. I'm in Gig Harbor and need a good fj60 mechanic for my 1981 original owner baby.

I too would love to have access to a dedicated landcruiser mechanic anywhere in Washington. The closest places I know of are in Portland, OR.

Gils Service Station LTD in Surrey BC.

The garage which was formerly a service station in a previos location is now located at:

604-594-5919
4-7780 135A Street, Surrey, BC V3W 9A7

Thay are a excelent set of mechanics there that have worked on a number of cruisers. In once case did 70 thousand dollars worth of work to a 70 series cruiser. The reputation of the guys goes back many generations. The shop is in a strip building but there is no name above there front window. Thay dont need to advertise thay have a good name in the community. At one time thay were open 6 days a week but because thay have enough customer based are now open only 5 days a week.

Super honest garage that will fix only what needs to be fixed. The owner Kunio is truly a doctor, been working on Cruisers since the begining.

Thumbs up

This guy is the best cruiser mechanic ever in my opinion. I'd come from a state or two away to use him. However, he is a stock mechanic - he's not a mod mechanic if you know what I mean.

Thanks for the replies, I will follow up via PM. I am going to try and take a limited number of side jobs over the winter and see how it goes. If any one else is interested, please PM me.

Larry is a cool dude. He is mainly in the business of working on trucks but call him to see if he does cruiser work.

Oh, he also has a flatbed truck carrier for the odd rescue.

Northwest Land Cruiser Portland Oregon

NWLC installed an H55F in an 84FJ60 for me. They also re-build my t-case, installed custom drive-lines, and a bunch of other stuff. I highly recommend Tony and Matt - good guys, good shop. Lots of old Land Cruisers on the log - a fun place to just look around.

New rig for me.

I sold a 1988 Ford PU and picked up a 1985 FJ 60. I hope I made a good choice! I can now take my kids out in the desert. I am having a little trouble with the rear seatbelts. They lock sometimes and are hard to get unlocked. Any suggestions? What kind of monthly maintenance should I be concerned with overall?

Cruiserhead on Vancouver Island?

I searched for anything on Vancouver Island or BC or Canada. Very little. I'm looking for more of a diesel cruiserhead specialist if possible. Anyone near Victoria, BC?

CharlieFJ60,
Depending on what you're looking to have done you might look into Luke's shop in Grass Valley, 4x4labs or Mudrak in Sonoma. I don't know anybody closer. HTH

Grass Valley. CA.
J&M Off Road
Springhill Drive
(530) 273-7627

Mikey and Jeremy are excellent yoder wrenches as well as just about anything you want to build up. Grass Valley's about 90 minutes east of Sacramento and worth the limp if you're a hurtin' unit. They'll do recoveries and they have their own trailers. Great Dudes, and great work..... if we ever have a post on who to stay away from.... I can let you know about the other guys too.

J&M sponsored my buddy's 1964 PRO Arena truck and have recently taken on the challenge to fix my rig after it came back from "the other guys." The other guys know who they are, and may my $4400.00 burn in their pocket and open a door to the bowels of...... any way.... I recommend J&M, HANDS DOWN!!
