The information from this thread should be put into a dedicated page of reliable mechanics for people like me on the go.

My recomend for a diesel mechanic is for Surrey British Columbia. While Darell who is one of the lead mechanics has not worked on my wagon he has worked on other toyota diesels and 3Bs. He is nice, honest and fair and my wifes familly been using them for 20 plus years. He is very good.

Shop name is Gill's Service Station Ltd off of 74th and King Gorge. Even seen his son swap out a diesel from a ford truck.

If anyone needs a good mechanic in Salt Lake, I highly recommend Western States Auto. While driving to Salt lake in Dec. my rear main blew. I went through 3 quarts of oil between Montana and Utah. A friend recommended I take my cruiser this place, and boy did they do good work. In 3 1/2 days they replaced both the rear main and oil pan gasket, resurfaced the flywheel, and put in a new clutch. When they put it back together the throwout bearing was making a wierd noise, so they tore everything apart, put in a new bearing, and put it all back together in about 5 hrs. They also called me everyday and gave me an update of what was going on, which was something I really liked. Very friendly and very good work, if you need work and are in Salt Lake, I highly recommend them.

Sadly, I sold the cruiser...now I drive a volvo 960 station wagon. Definately not as rad as the cruiser, but it gets over 25mpg, has an I6, and a locking rear diff! I'm sure i'll have another cruiser more sooner than later.

I know this is a little late but PROTRUX in San Marcos (North County) has a good reputation for reliable work on Toyota trucks. I know several people who service their trucks here:

Closer to San Diego proper I take my LC to The Truck Shop. I have been very pleased with them to date. They are much more reliable than the dealer and cheaper too.

Cruiser Mechanic In Calgary

Mike Ouellet at Pro-Active Automotive in Calgary Alberta has a lot of experience with Toyota Landcruisers and toyota diesels in particular. I think he worked at the local Toyota dealer for like twenty years before going out on his own. He's the only the only guy I'm aware of in town that specializes in Cruisers and Rovers (we won't go there). He fixed the leafspring bushings in my HJ61 when I first got it from my importer who some how managed to slide it through the provincial inspection with out repairing THEM. I won't mention any names RISING SUN IMPORTS!

In Los Angeles/San Fernando Valley:

K&H Import
The Land Cruiser Specialists
On Ingomar Ave don't know the street number x st. is Canoga
Call Richard 818-594-0088

I've had plenty of work done there on plenty of Cruisers. He's fast, reliable honest and reasonable. My wife's car (not a Cruiser) is there right now. He's about 2 miles from SOR so parts are plentiful too.

I guess I am not retracting from my recommendations, but I am just doing as much as I can myself these days. These guys I recommended are either too expensive or just not as experienced in LC's as I would have liked. Not bad mechanics but not what I am looking for.

Any new recomendations in South Florida would be gladly accepted, in the meantime I will tackle things bit by bit.

I know a good guy in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. He does suspension's, engine, body work and makes custom bumpers, all for a really good price too. E-mail me if you want to get in contact with him.

AfricanToy, Not sure where in Utah you are but when I was going to school in Provo a few years ago there were a couple of inexpensive body shops on Bulldog Ave just West of State Street, across the street from the good old D.I. There was also a super cheap mechanic at the same intersection, he has a VW beetle on his roof. I had a Trooper at the time (I know, I later repented) but he was the cheapest mechanic in Provo I ever found (maybe not best but the cheapest...)

WI Mch. shop

There is a mechanic shop in Elkhorn wi by the name of wedidge automotive. Maybe www.wedigeauto.com, or just google.

Anyway, they have (3) old school mechanics, one that has done work to my 'fj62 and another who can do alot with 40's.

Not too sure they like a guy like me coming to them with my junk, but they do nice work.

Other Los Angeles Cruiser mechanics

Hi,

I see some mechanics recommended, but none here on the Westside of Los Angeles, CA. Any closer to Venice, Culver, WeHO, Inglewood etc...a 310 area code mechanic that you can recommend?

Danke

if you in NJ and need a toyota trained mechanic- look up Kenny Dean he is located in waretown, NJ phone 609.660.0088 worked at toyota for 20 + years before going out on his own- also he is an off road supplier and races stock trucks off road! give him a ring and tell him matt with the 85 fj60 sent you.

Los angeles area cruiser shops

Well.....I have a Texas Cruiser in the Los Angeles areas....and here is my run down of the greater Los Angeles Landcruiser shops..I have visited them all..

1. K&H Imports.(Canoga Park CA)...Ask for Rich...He is the most honest Landcruiser mechanic I have met...and the cheapest....If you are mechanically inclined...(like most cruisers guys are)...he will save you some money and tell you how to fix your cruiser yourself...Somethings...you just would prefer to pay to have fixed.

2. Man-a-fre(Semi valley ca)....I had them remove a rear leaf from my OME springs...(OME stinkbug syndrom for the FJ60)....great guys there...also upgraded my brakes with them. Would Highly reccomend them.

3. TLC (Van Nuys Ca): Avoid like the plaque...unless you are Bill Gates.....extremely expensive...every quote I recieved from them was always 20-25% higher than anyone else....I am sure they do great resto work...but for maintenance that does not cost a second house mortgage...look elsewhere....

Ever hear of a guy named "Yodaman" in Santa Rosa?

A place that is now defunct recommended someone named "Yodaman" here in Santa Rosa, CA. Has anyone ever had him do any work, and if so would they recommend him?
