Wire ARB switches together or seperate?

The ARB locker manual says that if you have front and rear lockers, you should wire the switches so the second one (the front) can only be activated if the first one (the back) is on. Why should I bother? I would prefer not to do it this way unless someone can tell me why it's such a good idea...

The only thing I can think of is when you turn on one locker you normally will have the other one engaged too. It makes sense to have more flexability on the trail so if you run into a problem you can engage them seperately. You will need two air actuated solenoilds I think.

Call ARB and ask them.

The reason they want you to do this is so that you cannot engage the front alone. It puts more stress on the front and may cause it to break eaiser than having the rear locked in as well. Mine is wired this way. I cant remember a time that I needed only the front locked. I have used only the rear locked many times. Some of the hard core wheelers will unlock the rear and use cutting brakes to turn around objects. I have never seen anyone try it in a somthing as long as a Cruiser Wagon though. That would be interesting!

I know why *they* want me to do it. I don't agree, however, and can imagine a few, admittedly rare, instances it would at least be convenient to operate them seperately. I was planning on wiring them seperately unless someone here could give me a good reason not to.

A friend of mine did as ARB suggested and hooked then up so that the front could only be engaged if the rear was also engaged but the cool thing he did was to use a push/pull headlight switch. He used the first pull out position (normally "park lights") to engage the rear locker and the second pull out position (normally "park + headlights") to engage front and rear.

It was an easier switch to mount for him because he has limited dash space.
