Carb fuel stream

What should the stream of fuel look like when you manually throttle the carb? Mine is kinda a hap-hazard squirting rather than a steady flow. I'm having some bucking and surging under load lately; idles OK but not as smooth as say 6 months ago. Plus how important is that little rubber boot on the accelerator pump? Mine is torn. Thanks.

With the motor running it will be hard to determine, but with the motor off it should be fairly uniform and consistent through the stroke.

Remember this is the accelerator pump shot you are viewing. This fuel enrichment serves to add fuel for acceleration and will not address your problems under load. The main jet and power valve features of the carb serve the varying load conditions.

The boot is not super important, still it would be a good idea to collect one and have it ready to install next opportunity you have to get-er-done.

So I just removed the top of the carb to clean it out and noticed the INLET SCREEN was all bent up. I don't know how it got this way, or if I can even straighten it out. SOR didn't show as having any. Does anyone know if this screen comes included in a rebuild kit? Or where I can get one? Thanks.
