Instrument Cluster Lights Out

New to the cruiser scene, I just bought an '83 FJ60 knowing that the Instrument Cluster lights did not work on it. I knew the guy had just put a new battery in it, so I figured he either blew some fuses doing so, or one of the bulbs was out (I think they are all in series?) I've replaced fuses and checked light bulbs as well as the rheostat connection and nothing seems to be working. Any Ideas? Are the bulbs in a series?

Do the Head lights and tail lights work? if so then you have a loose wire I would Check the switch to make sure if there is power going into it and out of it when on.

Have you tried adjusting the gauge brightness knob? When turned all the way to the left the lights are off.

The gauges themselves still work, right?

Good call there, the same circuit that runs the tail lights and marker lights runs the instrument back light as well. My trailer was causing me to blow that fuse some time back with a short in the tail lights.
