Power Steering is acting up!!! twitchy and jerky

Hello all
I just purchased another Bj60. While i was driving it home to Seattle last night i noticed that the power steering is very twitchy and every now and again it would jerk to one side on its own. It was a little hairy at times driving 65mph at night on the I5 in a cruiser that wanted to find it own way. This only happens when i'm driving relatively straight at higher speeds (around town parking ect it is fine, It does seem to need a little more input then other 60's that i've had before, its stiffer and more resistant )
Would any of you know what this might be? is it just a worn out front end (IE slack in the steering?) or is it related to the pump? I know very little about how PS pumps work.
any info would be greatly appreciated.
cheers

could be pump? Have lookes at the drag link? or the TRE's? Look the whole front end over as there are many variables when it comes to drifting or your symptoms.

Wow, look at all the expensive **** in your sig line. Perhaps you should make the damned thing run, reliably, before dragging it thru an offroad catalog with a magnet attached! After all the work it took to install all that, I'd thinhk a couple of water leaks should be minor! ~TEXX (IH8MUD member) 10/09

Thanks for the help, what is a drag link?
Should I just look for play in all steering components? Should I have someone move the steering wheel while i look at the front end move to see where there's some slop/slack???

drag link is the first joint coming down off the pitman arm. it connects the steering rods to the gearbox off the pitman arm. has a little rubber boot around it with two smalll springs wrapped around it too.
Thats a perfect plan....have someone turn the wheel while you watch.
