Faded or Painted?

My '84 HJ60 has the light blue metalic original paint, and it's back to the undercoat on the roof and hood.
She's looking pretty shabby paintwise, that's for sure.
The thing is that there is no rust in the old girl, and I may be putting her up for sale in the near future.

Should I put her on the market with the original faded paint, so anyone can easily check that she really is rust free, or should I do a respray to make her look a bit less tired?
Of course it is harder to determine what might be hidden under a new paintjob.
Also the paintjob will cost a few bucks plus some labour time, which would put the asking price up a tad.
So, would it be best (regarding paint) to present her warts and all, or respray?

What do you guys think?

Clean sheet metal is not "warts". I personally wouldn't care anything about faded paint if I were looking for a LC. In fact, it would stink if I had to pay for a shiny new paint job in a color I hated. I nearly bought a local truck with a great 1 year old paint job, but it was a bright candy apple red that I hated, and ultimately it helped kill the deal for me as he wanted to get his money back out of the paint job, and it just didn't add up for me.

I say leave it as is and show them your clean sheet metal. A cheap paint job will add nothing to the value or asking price, and you don't want to spend the money on a good paint job - it could be easily more than the asking price of a good 60.

Wow, look at all the expensive **** in your sig line. Perhaps you should make the damned thing run, reliably, before dragging it thru an offroad catalog with a magnet attached! After all the work it took to install all that, I'd thinhk a couple of water leaks should be minor! ~TEXX (IH8MUD member) 10/09

You will never get your money back on a paint job. leave it the way it is.

and you gotta figure your average LC buyer is not a cosmetic-driven wanker

Leave the old girl au naturel and let 'er breathe

you want to spend money get a steam cleaner and clean up/detail the seats, carpet, headliner, crevices, undercarriage. That says a ton more to me about how the truck has been valued by its owner than fresh make-up would

861 blue is the best. If you can do it yourself and save $$ (while still making it look good) - i think you should.

just being devils advocate here. Take pics to show any prospective buyers. It will make it easier to sell if they see it was done right and something they don't need to do. Should make yours stand out better and get top dollar.

GL!

My vote is to leave it. Like Rekcut said, you'll never get the $ back out of it. If you must repaint it, keep it the same color and take before and after pics. This way the new owner doesn't think you were tryin to hide something.

Thanks for the input guys!
Yeah, I'm thinking the same thing, that she would best be presented "as is".
I'm not a spraypainter so would have to pay to have a respray done.
I know like you guys, I would rather see the original paintwork on a truck I was looking at buying, cause it is so much easier to check the true condition of the bodywork.
She's not on the market yet, and it will be good if I can hang on to the old bugger, as I've had her about 17 years and been a lot of places around Oz.
I've also got an HJ61, so if I have to sell the blue 60, I'll still own a 60 series.
They sure are a gret truck!
Thanks again and I'll take notice of the advice you've given.
