Still Not Running

Yep - still not running (well)....

Here's where I'm at right now - she'll start idle very ragged - almost lawnmower - tractorish sound.

Zero throttle response....after 10-15 minutes idle stabilizes - although it's still rough vacuum.

Will only run with choke fully closed. If I manually open choke idle becomes ragged.

All of this is pointing towards an intake manifold issue. However - pulled the intake a few times. Cleaned it up nicely....still couldn't find any cracks.

Shifted towards electronic side of things today.

Checked coil resistence per FSM. Showing 1.9 Ohms. Spec is .5 - .7....would this affect spark generation....which would lead to poor detonation?

Starting to go a little crazy.

BTW - ordered a Remflex gasket from David...nice guy and an excellent price.

Thanks,
jake

Can you tell us what how you got to this point and what you've done? Is it running on all cylinders and are the plug wires in the right order?

....

Re-did all connections on coil (new crimps, etc.). Made somewhat of a difference.

After researching a bit I think that the difference in primary/secondary resistance from the FSM should not matter. Mostly due to the fact that this is an OEM style replacement that the PO put on - I'd imagine that the Toyota FSM only gives numbers for original yota parts?

Anywho - she ran a little better....no lawn mower-esque sounds. Still will not hold a good idle at lower RPMs and with choke opened by hand.

Keep coming back to a hairline crack that I haven't been able to find. Remflex gasket is coming in tomorrow - will try and shine up the manifold a little better this time....

Perhaps it's a problem I've had for a while and it's just surfacing now due to the change in temperature.

Refer to a previous post for a list of what I've already done.

Yep - running a Weber 38....already drained gas tank.

Really leaning towards cracked intake manifold. Would explain (mostly) why she'll only idle well with choke fully closed.

Anyone have a used intake?

Does your Weber 38 have an idle jet solenoid on it?

I tried to install mine and hooked it up wrong and it wouldn't idle. So if it has failed that could be giving you some big issues.

Looks like this
