front wheelbearings correct torque

After following serveral excellent write ups on the correct way of tightening the front wheel bearings, I did the inner 54 mm nut at 20ft lbs, and the outer at 46 ft lbs and then bent the tabs over on the locking washers.

I have then come across a thread that says the inner nut should be torqued to 5 ft lbs?

Just wondered what the experts have used.

The adjusting nut is 3-5 ft lbs. However, I just go by feel. Then the lock nut can be torqued to about 50-60 ft-lbs.

How I do it too. For the first time ever last night I checked the results with a spring scale. I'm a bit over the FSM's range.

These are big bearings, you're more likely to do damage from under tightening them than you are from over tightening them. When I've had the wheel bearings opened up for what ever reason I always pull over and check the wheel hub temperatures after the first 5-10 miles of freeway driving.
