Crazy Oil Filler Cap

OK, weird one here. My 1990 62 had an oil filler cap that was terrible hard to screw on, so I thought it was a poor aftermarket fit. The gasket was on it was as hard as a rock anyway, so I ordered a new one from the dealer.

It fits even worse than the first one, which I now think is original. Any ideas? I have to really crank on to get the gasket to compress, and my father could not even get it off after I put it on. Crazy I say.

Clean the "CRUD" out of the threaded area of the valve cover.
