If I hear you right, you got a new power steering pump and it leaks? Take it back.

Why would you want to fix a non-working new part????
Take it back and get one that works.....you paid for it!

Its the small circle cap that is screwed in by a small phillips screw at the bottom right kind of behind the pulley. (P.S. alaska when i turned my wheels it worked great it's just that cap)

there is not a cap that goes there. It's supposed to be sealed inside with an o-ring, which apparently is leaking. If it is a new pump, take it back and get another one.

Here is what my pumps look like. The mounted one is a new one from Cruiser Dan.
The bottom one is one that blew its fluid for the last time.

The general thought is that rebuilt pumps suck and only last a short time. I believe this is due to a front bushing that wears and is not replaceable. My experience (which I think is common) is that my rebuilt lasted a year and was leaking again.
So, to really fix it, you need to buy a new pump from Toyota. Not sure how much they are, but it ain't cheap. I went the other route and upgraded to a Saginaw pump. I say upgraded since I think it is better than the stock unit. Much more boost, which is appreciated with larger tires. HTH.

Buy the rebuild kit and rebuild it. Did mine last month and it works like new.
All aftermarket pumps are crap and as far as I know all the toyota reman's are no longer available due to bad quality control as your probably aware. Follow the FSM instructions and you'll be all good with a rebuild .

But does the rebuild kit address the non-replaceable bushing mentioned above?

No, it does not address the bushing. I called Cruiser Dan today about a replacement pump for my '79 FJ40....no dice.....discontinued. He said he can still get the pump for the later 40's and the early 60's.....what are the differences (he wasn't sure)?

X2 on the Saginaw, cheap, some with lifetime warranty, and very reliable. I went one step further on my former 60, upgraded the high pressure hose to 2600 PSI. The day the 60 crashed, the whole steering system was working like a charm.

The pump is not considered rebuildable due to the bushing issue. This is from Spector's site:
Rebuilt Power Steering Pumps
Specter does not offer rebuilt power steering pumps. The original Toyota front pump body does not have a replaceable bushing in it. To rebuild the pump correctly, the housing needs to be machined for a bushing and the bushing needs to be honed to match the pump shaft. Rebuilding these pumps this way would make the cost of the remanufactured pump comparable to the new Toyota pump.
Of course, people can do what they want. And you may fix it if the front bushing was not your issue. But you'd be living on borrowed time. JMHO.

I forked out a load of cash for a new Toyota pump about seven or eight years back. It was north of $500. Even brand new, right out of the box it was no match for even a tired out, leaky Saginaw. I love America.

Ya thats what I am worried about is that it's probably not going to last too much longer, And how everyone says saginaws are the way I would put one on in a heart beat but since mine is a 87' I have to have a smog pump. I just hope the pump lasts until january when the emission law changes in utah and i dont need a smog pump then I will get a saginaw

Not everyone will say that a Saginaw is the way to go. I think it is. But that's just my worthless opinion.

I live in Utah and I kept the smog pump for about five minutes. I had to keep the housing to keep tension on the belt, but I gutted it and tossed all the smog crap. I never had an issue with inspections as long as it would blow the right numbers at the pipe which it always did. Find a friend that does emissions and doesn't have such a sharp eye for details (like smog pumps) that stopped working ten years ago anyway. Do a search on MUD for Saginaw and you will find some excellent posts with good pictures on how to make a bracket.

I pulled mine off too and ripped out all the guts in it, I just dont know if you can still fit a saginaw with the housing right below
