Hi Crelok,

I did this to my FJ62 about a month ago, took about 4 hours in and out, that included grinding the flywheel, replacing the rear main with a genuine seal and draining/refilling the trans and gearbox with new fluid.

I used an Exedy Heavy Duty, stay away from the Safari Tuff, too many problems with those. You only need to remove the four bolts holding the g/box to the bellhousing, there is enough room to leave the starter and rest of the bell housing in place, saves time trying to get all the bolts. You can also remove the gearshift from the top of the gearbox, if you are inside the cabin, remove the gearshift surround and keep going until you are looking at the top of the gearbox, you can then press down and turn the gearshift lock and this will remove the stick.

Transfer shifter pops off the box itself underneath, lock it in 4L before undoing so you have a reference point. Apart from that, its only a 2 banana job really. PM if you want more details. HTH

This will show the bellhousing left in place, and just working around it

My only advise it to get / use a transmission jack. I tried using a floor jack with various straps, boards, attachments and almost hurt myself and / or the transmission. Gave up and got a tranny jack. Went right in and made me upset I didn't do that from the start.

I used a hydraulic motorcycle lift stand to lower and raise tranny/transfer combo.

Yes. Fork will come out, particularly if clutch slave is removed. That little spring that holds it on the pivot ball ain't too strong.

No. Jim C. Poser, OrangeFJ45, Mark Algazy (marksoffroad.net - shameless plug), Mark W. and a select few others (sorry, forgot Mace), know all. I only know where I've been, and have no idea where I'm going.

But thanks for the props, anyway...

very straight forward, jst a PITA. make sure you get the clutch disks in the right direction. the center sticks out farther on one side and it has to point the right direction, towards the crank o tranny, i can't remember
