Yes. It is a lot of work to get to it. A new one is around $36 for an ITM solid replacement, or $72 for the last of the Mellings American made batch. I recieved the ITM one from norther auto parts. Also might want to check the clearance of the thrust plate.

Yes. Solid one is better, too.

Also, be careful when pressing out the old one, I put a 23 mm socket on the top like the fsm said, but it must have not been exactly centered or something because it crumbled the c clip lip.

If you don't, you will be soon anyway..

After a very frustrating period of time wondering why the camshaft timing keeps slipping..

What is the right way to press off the gear while we're on the subject?

When pressing gears off, I give a little heat from a torch to the gear. Just enough to get a little expansion, it makes them easy to remove.

To press on, I heat the gear in the oven to about 300 F, and if possible, freeze the the shaft (Cam in this case) for an hour of so. Many times the gear will just slide on.

Been doing it this way for more years then I like to remember.

Good luck,

Doug

Cool, will definitely try this with my new solid gear. I was speaking more about where to put the press on cam end or what to put between cam and press when removing it?

So the options are :
ITM part no 50060 about $30
Melling part no 2202 about $70
OEM part no 13523-60030 about ? ( SA Rand 800 about $100 )

What is the difference ? ( apart from price )

I need to order - I hope they ship to Africa

You can also use the cam gear from a 3F, at-least the NA 3FE is solid, assuming the 3F is the same.

And the crank and cam gear are usually replaced as a set since they wear together.
