Noisy valves, injectors, or exhaust leak?

My FJ62 has sounded like a diesel as long as i've known it. It's always run fantastic, but I have a clicking/ticking/tapping that is with me constantly. My cruiser mech (jose rivera, who knows his shit) has told me it sounds like a normal 62 engine to him, and if anything might benefit from a valve job, but i've read a lot on mud about exhaust leaks sounding similar to this. When starting cold, the sound is less present than when warmed up, and gets less noticeable again as speed increases. Most noticeable at idle, and got substantially louder after pulling my carpet (obviously). Any thoughts? Could it be the injectors?

Thanks all

Luke

Heres my thoughts.... If it is less prevelent when cold, then the exhaust leak is not the issue. usually the exhaust leaks will quiet up when warm as the gasket will swell and fill in a bit. The valves however will get noisy with heat. simple valve adjustment.?......inline 6's do tick.
my 2 cents.

On a different note...do you know Jared from mud? he lives in your neck of the woods..... he did that trip to Alaska in his 60 this past spring.....cool Cat!!!

Wow, look at all the expensive **** in your sig line. Perhaps you should make the damned thing run, reliably, before dragging it thru an offroad catalog with a magnet attached! After all the work it took to install all that, I'd thinhk a couple of water leaks should be minor! ~TEXX (IH8MUD member) 10/09
