JT high steer system

Ran across this high steer setup at Just Differentials and it caught my attention. I need to replace the U joints on my steering column and rework my steering to get rid of the bit of slop that's developing, and this looked like a much more solid setup than what comes factory. My questions are 1) is this even useable on 2" of lift and 2) is it even necessary when I won't be turning anything bigger than 33" tires at low speeds?

It sure looks purty for $300. and are those heim joints I see on the ends???

The histeer kits are typically for the SOA conversions....this helps get the steering arms above the leafs.
It sure is purdy though.
The oem steering is pretty beefy too.........it lasted this long!!!!! 1988 - 2010!
I would fix the issues and it will more than likely be good for another quarter million miles!

Wow, look at all the expensive **** in your sig line. Perhaps you should make the damned thing run, reliably, before dragging it thru an offroad catalog with a magnet attached! After all the work it took to install all that, I'd thinhk a couple of water leaks should be minor! ~TEXX (IH8MUD member) 10/09

Are you sure that isn't another Trail Gear set up being sold by someone else?

Ask them what country it is made in. If it's China, I would pass.

If you want high steer and you are spring under, 4x4 labs has custom arms that they bend just for that application, and then you can run the ultra beefy GM1 ton TRE's made in the USA by MOOG.

Those look like TREs to me not Heims. The other thing I've found is that most aftermarkect toyota stuff is for mini axles unless specifically noted to fit a landcruiser. If you are interested in the kit I'd call and make sure it will fit your axle.

Even the picture seems to be right off the Trail Gear web site. Why do so many folks not like Trail Gear? I don't get it.

looks identical to my Trail Gear Hy steer.

and with only 2" of lift im not sure if you would have clearance issues or not... i know with 4+ you should be fine.

That's pretty much what I was thinking, only with MAF's 4+ tie rod and relay rod and the appropriate TRE kit (IIRC the 80 series TREs are required. Can anyone clarify?)

If you put an FJ60 series TRE on the bench next to an 80 series TRE you will know. The 80 TRE is much bigger, about the size of a GMC 3/4 ton TRE.
For applications where HySteer is required you usually want to upgrade ALL of the steering components.
The 4X4 Labs set up is nice, but I'm not a fan of the double ended steering arm. I have the All Pro set-up and have had good luck with it so far.

Search is your friend.

4x4 labs makes both styles. Not all have the Frombe behind the axle tie rod. Check out my FJ60 and you will see.

gm 3/4 ton and 1 ton tre's are pretty much the same , ford dodge , if you look at them all beside each other they are all the same size 7/8" -18 on the threads. some may look differnt due to differnt manufactures. fj80 is quite a bit smaller. i run extreme gear arms with mix and match 3/4-1 ton ends. ive put many marlin arms on rigs and they work fine. 4x4 labs has some nice arms tell them what you have they will set you up. they made a custom set of arms for an uncles 55. no prob. save our country and quit buying imported chinese crap like trail junk sells.
