| Interior Options-Need Votes Just picked up my 2nd 62 series cruiser which will be my build platform while I drive the BJ around. Took out the carpet today as it had succumbed to mold and a peculiar white fungus. Trying to decide what to do at this point. Currently I have a two year old boy and a second on the way in October . This rig will be the family travel rig. Should I 1) Bedline/Durabak the interior floor? or
2) Soundproof and vinyl floor the cruiser? Trying to decide on either getting the interior quiet or making it so I can hose it out. I plan on soundproofing the firewall, doors, roof and anywhere else I can anyway. Does the bedliner material quiet down the interior at all? Anyone that has done this feel free to offer your .02 Thanks.
By the way, how do I get out the glued on insulation material left over from the carpet?

Got about a half gallon sitting next to me actually.

| Sound deadning with a carpet. My 2 cents. I don't care for vinyl it looks cheap, plain old beadliner looks redneck. If this is just an everyday driver for the fam and you are worried about stains and such then high quality carpet kit and scotch brite it and keep it vacuumed.

Clint | Whats wrong with a little redneck mixed in every now and then? ....Actually, on second thought, dont answer that
My 62 is tad redneck, not gonna lie

| X3 on the carpet, but bedliner may be easier I would think it would deaded road and engine noise a bit but may be more eco'ish interior noise.
Plus its kid proof haha

I had some rust that was startin to get outta hand, so I used Rust Bullet (I highly reccomend anyone with rust problems to use it) then Durabaked it.
Also Durabak has many different colors than just black.

| I wouldn't use any kind of bedliner, that's for sure. The tranny tunnel in my FJ62 used to get REALLY hot on the highway, and a bedliner material will get sticky and stink.
My carpeting was in good shape, but I still ended up pulling it all up and putting down an additional layer of foam carpet padding, then put the carpet back in. Helped with both the heat and sound deadening.

| I have new mat and carpeting and reaally like it. It brings the 60 back to "Like new" condition. But, since I'm going for the "utility" look, I'm most likely go to vinyl soon.
Also, the problem with "Rhino Lining" the interior is that it doesn't cover all the exposed wiring and body shapes that is hidden under the carpet. So if you want to run power or large speakers in the rear the wires are all exposes. Plus once the lining starts getting ground in dirt it's never looks as good as when it's first sprayed.
(I learned all these lessons on a Jeep, Samurai and a utility van....)
Good luck with whatever you do!

| I never did pull the carpet when I filled the back of my 62 with built in storage but I found a great pad to cover the box for the dog. It's that interlocking foam with a diamond plate pattern molded in. It's made for the shop floor and cheap. I got mine at the auto parts store. If I ever clear out the back of my rig I would probably use this instead of carpet.

| let me say from experience that you will without a doubt want to insulate it. i live in dallas and have driven my '84 60 for 2 yrs w/o a/c but after pulling the carpet last winter and removing the insulation and factory sound deadener i had to have a/c installed earlier this summer. the heat from the tranny tunnel is unbearable. i used a rubber mallet and chisel to get the deadener off the floor pans then went after the stubborn residual material with a brass wire wheel and an 18V Dewalt. i looked into a lot of options for insulation b/c even after having the a/c repaired, which included a new compressor, dryer, expansion valve and conversion to R134 the heat from the floor still caused my legs to sweat and the a/c to only help moderately. my concern was that items like dynamat, etc. are primarily used to deaden sound not specific to insulate the cab and are fairly expensive. below is a link to what i found and purchased. the company is on the west side of ft. worth and i received the product 2 days after ordering. it is inexpensive and really does decrease the heat entering the cab significantly. it also does an adequate job of deadening sound. i can now hear my 3 yr old daughter riding in the back seat. i've only roughed it in as i'm still working on cleaning and sealing the floor pans. check it out. i bought 2 of the 40 sq ft rolls and believe i will have enough to put a double layer in the front and back seat floor pans. i'm not doing the cargo area b/c i plan to durabake or herculine that area. | haven't glued it down yet. still trying to get the floors cleaned and properly sealed. i'm gonna go with the 3M adhesive recommended on the website. so far i've just rough cut two pieces for the front floor pans and it has really cut down on the heat coming in. previously if i accidentally touched me foot to the trans tunnel it would burn the hell out of me. know i can drive all day and put my palm flat on the tunnel and it just warm. i think it's gonna be perfect when i glue it down and possibly get a second layer on to kill even more noise and heat.

| Insulation Insulation is a big plus when compared with sound deadening. I have been pretty convinced to go the sound deadening/insulation route but really like the vinyl. As soon as I figure out two leaks that I just found this is going in. Stay posted.

| Hey,
I'm in Dallas as well and just ordered two rolls of Raamat for my 62. I"m going to tackle that in a few weeks. Come on over and lend a hand and you can see what the job will be like. I've got a brand new carpet all round that's been rolled up in the garage for over a year. I've also got a wiring issue...(brake lights don't work)...so I'll fix that while the carpet is up as well.
Where in Dallas are you located?

| i'm no expert, but while the EZ Cool stuff probably does a great job w/ heat, it definitely won't dampen like a real audio dampener (RAAMat, Second Skin Damplifier). I've been cruising the DIYMA forums, and SS forums for a couple years before getting my SS.
I'd love to see what people experience measurement wise with both a dampener or this insulator. Everything i've read from the sound guru's is that dampening takes weight! which the EZ Cool stuff just doesn't have. Not that it won't help, but closed cell foam doesn't absorb sound (which acts like water)... blah blah blah. You get the point.
Someone show the results and when i'm done (eventually!) i've got measurements before to compare against afterwards. If the EZ Cool stuff can get 4db i better damn well get a LOT more than that!
GL!!
