Help!

Hey everyone.
Well, I just got my 1987 60 home yesterday. I am wanting to do some fluid changes, tune up etc... my problem... I dont have many tools or a ton of experience with auto repairs. I have done ouil changes in the past changed starter and fuel pump on a 77 chevy monza, but other than that my expeience, as i said , is a bit limited. I am planning on ordering the FSMs from Dan(i do believe that is the link ive seen). I was just wondering if I could get some advice on some essential tools that I will need, some links to fluid specs or even some tips on basic maintenance. I am wanting to change out all fluids including diff. I have been searching for a while in regards to the above mentioned items but cant sem to find what Im looking for so I am asking my knowledgeable forum members for assistance.

Also, I noticed a clicking sound on acceleration which increases in speed with RPMs. it only happens when the tranny is engaged. While idling or while the clutch in engaged and tranny is in neutral it runs smoothly.

so to sum up my long winded post.. what I am looking for is advice on..

1. Tool set/items for basic maintenance.
2. Fluid type and specs?
3. basic locations/walk throughs of steps for fluid changes(mainly diff)
3. other items to consider (cleaners, solvents etc)
4. Thoughts on what the "clicking" noise could be caused by.
5. links to downloadable fsm while waiting for my hard copies.

I apologize if these have been discussed in any length before, I searched but couldnt find much. I have been to the FAQ page as well. Thanks in advance for your help.

Been to the FAQ page and it does have specs, but for the extreme auto layman like myself its a bit off.. now if anyone wants to know how to make perfect Bearnaise, or hollandaise... let me know....
Im thinking of taking it up to the local shop (its listed as suggest mechanic ad is 2 blocks from home) and having him walk me through some things... alot of the numbers are just greek to me.... ah..dexron... .8L...... brain hurts...

I don't think you get manuals from CDan. You call Toyota Materials Distribution instead. Here is a post with some more information: IH8MUD Forums - View Single Post - FSM Prices???

One of the manuals is called "maintenance procedures". This manual provides recommended maintenance intervals with some instructions how to do the work. It will also provide most of the fluid specifications you will need. what is not in this manual can be found in the body and chassis manual.

Regarding a starting set of tools, well, you will need metric sockets and wrenches. The Toyota uses JIS nuts and bolts, which means the heads of the bolts/nuts use a different socket size than european metric. If all the hardware is stock, you will only need a few sizes of wrenches/sockets for most jobs: 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, 17mm, 19mm, 22mm. However, it's probably less expensive to purchase a set that comes with more than it is to get individual tools. You will also need some tune up tools such as a timing light, tachometer. I have a hand vacuum pump with vacuum gauge which is really helpful for testing the emissions equipment, if you still have all that.

Join your local club and meet some guys that know how to work on trucks. Invite them over to help you with your truck and "pay" them with good food and beer...
