I bought a front housing and overhaul kit assuming 80-85 transfer cases were all the same. Does 83 Have more than one transfer case? How do I find what I need?

They are the same, for US FJ60's. What was wrong?

From what I found out the case changed slightly in 84 and mine must have the 84 case. The rebuild kit and housing are on the way I'll let you know.

I know the internals changed, and the two halves of the case had a minor change to facilitate the use of a larger idler shaft ( 38mm vs the early 34mm ) but I don't think the front or rear output housings changed.
