RT Help needed - electrical problem...

...and on vacation - so I don't have my local resources (my mechanic).

All interior lights not working (clock, dome, parking lights, heater, tail/brake lights - the biggest problem).

Strange thing is that headlights do work.

I checked all fuses and are ok.

What should I look at next?

sounds like you have a problem with a ground wire that has come loose and is shorting out your elecronics.

do you have a repair manual, or FSM?

i would find out what circut all of those accessories are on and look for the loose wire.

do you have any trailer lights set up or spliced into the taillight wiring? this is a common spot for shorts to occur.

get a voltmeter and find out where the problem is at...

another thing to try would be to TAKE OUT each of the accessory fuses one by one, and when you find what circut the problem is on, some of the other accessories will probably come back to life.

Do your door locks work? If so, I would double check the brake light fuse (and trailer wiring as Kayak mentions) If not, I would suspect one of the fusible links at the positve terminal of the battery (those lights, the heater, the charging circuit and the power locks share a common feed at the battery)

Thanks for the quick responses, guys!

The power door locks do not work.

I will hunt down a voltometer and I'll try the 1 fuse at a time diagnostic as well.

I don't have a FSM, but I do have the Hayes. It has a ton of scematics but they are too complicated for my level of experience with electronics.

I'll report back my progress. I really just want to get the tail/break lights working, so I can legally (safely) drive it.

check your fusible links. I think the white one provides power to dome light and tail lights. On the FJ60 you can take the links out and plug the harness together without the links. BUT, if you really have a short, you run the risk of burning up your harness.

Good Luck.
