V8Swap starter problem

I'm having a problem wiring up the starter in my v8 swap. Tested the starter everything is good. The positive from the battery is good, I grounded it just to test so ground is defiantly good. The power from the ignition hits 12v when I turn the key but will not engage the starter? When I have everything hooked up and turn the key nothing happens except the battery meter in the truck will drop all the way down...? When not hooked to the starter it does not drop at all when turning the key. If I take a screw driver and jump the power from the terminal over it will turn over fine. If I hook a second wire directly from power terminal to the starter it will turn. I'm at a loss when tested I get power from the ingnition line but when hooked to the starter it wont do it and the battery drops all the way down what the heck. Any advice is greatly appreciated thanks everyone.
