| Vacuum in the gas tank Can anyone tell me if there should be vacuum in the gas tank. When I take of the gas cap there is a whoosh noise as the presure equalizes. I am wondering if this is one reason why I have a hard time with hot starting and also what I should do about it? Is there a vent that could be plugged up?
I have a 3rd world spec FJ 62 no smog stuff, carb, no cat exhaust

| whoosh sound is normal, my rig use to cut off when one of my gas vent lines was loose not letting it create a pressure.

| The fuel tank should be under pressure, not vacuum.

| Dan's right, the whoosh you hear is actually gas vapor pushing it's way out into the atmosphere. If the tank is under vaccum, there's something seriously wrong.

| Does a positive pressure tank hold true for fuel injection also?
How much pressure should be generated for a fuel system to function properly?

devo | ANY gas tank should be under positive pressure just by the very nature of gasoline vapor pressure.
Don't know the functioning pressure off the top of my head though....
