White roof or no white roof

Hey guys, so about four and a half months ago I bought a blue fj60. I've been working on it alot and have came across that my roof is trashed, so my idea is that instead of blending the blue and clear coat (witch looks difficult) I decided that i should go with a whit roof like a 40. what do you guys think I should do and if you can please give me the paint code for the white, thanks.

I vote you make it a poll.

Then I'll vote no: a 60 is not a Mini or that Ford thing....

white will look good up there. Go for it. I painted my whole rig white and was surprised how cool it gets in the hot days.

I am going to do the exact thing with my roof,I will be using Duraback smooth w/uv to do it, I will not be doing mine for a few months yet but it would be great to see someone else do it first....my truck is blue also

If it floats your boat, then do it. This is a personal decision, is it not?

Do it. I did mine in honda championship white. I shot it with a non-hvlp gun, set at a very low pressure to give it a semi-rough yet glossy finish that doesn't need waxing to look nice.

The blue (is it smurf or ice?) will look great with white. I want my roof white, but in 155 (dark metallic gray), it'll look like ass. Speaking of which, other than the two-tone some of the 62s came in, what else do you all think goes well with the dark gray (other than black)?

Light gray, aka battleship. Mud, of whatever color.

After sleeping on it, I can see how blue/green/red could look nice w/a white roof. My rigs are tan, so the 'lower temperature' reasoning doesn't play in so much.

Plus, the only time I see the top of my roof is when I'm loading something up there, so painting it:

If I lived in a 2 story or town w/tall buildings, perhaps...

I thought of doing this but with the truck being almost all blacked out.. I dont know how it will look..

If I end up doing this I would probably start the white on both sides of the roof past the first ripple and about 5" from the back and front... The hood would have to be blacked out with some louvers.

Post some pics if and when you decide to do it.. it would help a few of us make the decision

TOFUDEBEEST: There is a built 62 around here that is dark metallic gray two tone color the other color is purple.. and it looks freaking nice I think !!

Good luck...

I enjoy your music Manu, nice to have you on the board. Post pics of those louvers when you're done, seen it done on an 80 but not a 60 yet, problem is getting them wide enough, most punches are to small.

Will somebody photoshop this as follows:

Bottom: Typical bedliner, but the high line on the front fender, the most common style, not like the one I show with bedliner on the hood and roof.
Side mid panel: 155 dark metallic gray
above the mid line: Silver, including the hood
Roof: White

Tofu, current, blacked out.

Alternate extent of the white:

The Goal:

Sorta like this crappy attempt (plus a white roof):

without the white roof, I think that the tricolor will work (silver top, gray middle, black bottom)
but adding the white .... lots of color. Especially if you have a roof rack (black).

PURPLE!

I vote no. I've seen a blue 60 with a white roof, it looked weird. Like a 40 but more fjcruiserish. If were polling this my vote is NO.

There are a few white roofed red 60's in my area that I see all the time. Looks cool to me. Gives it that expedition look and probably keeps it a little cooler inside.

For heat purposes, a little (ok, a lot) more involved, but anyone consider doing a radiant barrier paint on the underside of the roof metal, under the headliner?...or a relective foil-type liner.....think building roof material.

Mine is dark gray, in Texas, its freakin' hot, but the white roof just doesnt look right on the gray. But I dig the way RigOMortis' did his rig where the white on his roof can't be seen from the side. Thats the way to do it IMO.

Lots of color...does not sound bad to me, but then again, in a matter of a few weeks, I will forever be likened to Gerald Goode (with the bike). The recycling panda and the dolphin in the rainbow must have been stoner ideas (I'm so screwed):

I'm torn on a white roof with a sand/tan body. I like the idea, just don't think that I'll like the appearance. I've decided to make the floor of my roof rack white and leave the 60's roof color alone. I'm also thinking to suck the rack down as tight to the roof as reasonably possible in the hopes that it will at least partially act like those doubled "Safari Tops" occasionally seen on that other, less reliable brand.

On the roof insulation angle, I used the "Reflectex" foil covered bubble insulation from Lowe's on the under side of my Suburban's roof. The day that I put it in was a hot one and the insulation was good for about 20*f difference in under-roof surface temperature. If you do this, use upholstery shop grade or better headliner glue. Anything less won't last.
I fully plan to do the same in the 60 if/when the HL ever comes out.
