Dead Battery Update

I posted earlier this week about the battery being dead after a couple of days of sitting. This all seemed to happen around the introduction of the MG alternator - or at least around 2 weeks later. Well, brough the truck in to Sears - turns out it was a faulty battery. No big deal there - I traded up for the Optima red top. Ten put all new terminal conectors on as well. The Diagnostics at Sears are pretty limited - but they confirmed that there was a drain somewhere - what they can't tell is how big the drain is - it can be anything from the stereo memory lead to something major -

Tha being said, the truck is in an auto electronic diagonistic shop thins am getting checked out - I'll post an update on what the problem is as this progresses - maybe someone can be helped by this experience!

By the way, the MG is charging at 29amps at idle and toped the meter at 147 somewhere aroung 2500 rpms....

Okay - so, brought the rig into an electrical diagnostic place to see where the drain is. They still haven't got it down perfectly yet - however, they have it narrowed down to the Meen Green Alternator. Turns out the the OEM alternator has two plugs on top and the post in the back. The MG has 4 plugs on the top that join into a 2 prong plug - well, it looks like it was wired wrong. Basically, what I understand is that the regulator is pulling from the battery - mind you it charges fine, but it drains as well.

Will give another update when I get the final word.

Got the drain figured out!!!

Got the truck back today - turns out that the MG alternator wasn't wired right - not by me, but by the factory. See, the stock alternator has 2 plugs that come out of it - the MG has 4. Those 4 plugs splice into 2 that plug into your existing harness. It seems as though the folks ar MG spliced the wrong 2 wires together and completely bypassed the internal regulator. At Idle, the alternator was putting out nearly 17.9 volts....not good. It also created a drain on the battery when truck was off as well as overcharging the battery when running...not sure how, but the problem is fixed.

I guess some of the threads about MG actually were true...

Still love the alternator - just not the customer service or quality control. Under load it's productin 147+ amps.
