I was out taking pictures for my photo class on tuesday, and I was at this park and I remembered, "I didn't lock my doors." So I ran back to my car and locked the doors and I failed to realize that my keys and my cell phone were laying on the center console. So I locked my keys and my cell phone in my car. I took a picture of it:


I had to flag down a car to use there cell phone to call my parents to get there spare key. But they wern't home so I had to call AAA to see if they could help me. Two Hours later they finally came and used a slim jim to open the door. I was late getting back to school by an hour and a half. But now I always check to see if my keys are with me.

We've all done that once or twice Im affraid. Luckily you were in an area that you could get help. Otherwise it's break a window time.

I have a combination hide-a-key box on the top of my frame rails - saved my ass a few times.

one time at the post office when i was about 8 i was watching my little brother while my mom dropped of a letter. she was in there for like 30 seconds, so she told me to watch him ,but at that time i had cia (child in anus) syndrum, so i thought i would be smart and lock the door so no one could kidnap my brother, but inturn locked him in and us out. luckly the car was running so he wasnt going to over heat since it was july and about 100 degrees. my mom had to call my dad to get a key and the whole time she was about to go crazy.

A bit of wire bent the right way will open the vent glass in seconds. I can do it in the dark using my stripped down phone as a torch and the wire in one hand.
Makes you realize how easy is it for thieves

I used a "Slim Jim" for the first time a few weeks ago. Never before needed to (or ever did) break into a car and I was in in about 15 seconds. Locks are only for honest folks but they arn't much good against theives or even inexperienced folks like me!

Vent glass? Don't have that in the US that I'm aware of. You are talking about the rear sliders, right?

Anyway, good thing you could flag someone down. I was in the unfortunate spot of having to chuck a hammer through a window once.

Non-US 60's (Australia, South American spec) came with the small triangular "bug catcher" vent windows in the front, similar to the old school Jeep Wagoneers. These also came on the 40/45/47 series, but I can't confirm if they came in 55's.

I have a spot in the frame where I stash a key if I go out sailing or paddling...don't need keys at the bottom of the drink.

When I first bought the 62, I went windsurfing in Delaware and locked the keys in. Stood around with a couple of other surfers, scratching my head.

Luckily, I had left the windows cracked 1/2"...

One of the guys had a full-battened sail (my was half battens), so we pulled the longest batten, snaked it through the passenger front window, reached across and popped the window lock switch!!!

Now I always stash a key before closing up, and always leave the passenger window cracked.

Hide-A-key and I usually leave the back hatch unlocked. Locked the keys in my '99 F-150 last year on top of a mountain. I won't post the method, but I was inside in under 2 minutes starting from scratch with no idea what I was doing...way too easy.

I wasn't going to say, "oh yeah I put the car to start my car under the rear bumper of my car. So if you ever in the Twin Cities come on over and steal my car" I was just asking where is the best pace to hide it.

I didn't price shop before I chucked, but I put my money on the small window just behind the main window on the second row of seats.

in the owners manual for my 100 series, it says " if you must brake a widow the small back door one is the cheapest" no kiddin!

actaully none of the side window glass is spendy, I got a new back door little window for my 80 from the dealer for like $12!!!! the others are no more than $50


and guess what? I locked my keys in the 60 today myself.......but I carry 2 key rings so no worries.......and heck I hardly ever lock the tailgate........I bet most 60's are the same

We replace glass for people all the time who lock themselves out of their cars - did it myself on my new 84 60 couple weeks ago (1st time in over 20 years - had my guy come over & pull the rear hatch glass). Hide-A-Keys are a great money-maker for auto parts stores, locksmiths, & glass shops. Better to wire your spare key on the frame somewhere & only tell your significant other - won't fall off when wheeling.
