62 brake fluid bleeding-air in lines

I just changed over the brake pads on my 62 and had to dissconnect the calipers and brake lines. Unfortunately this introduces air into the lines and makes the brakes mushy. Any other suggestions other than pushing down the brake pedal and opening up the relief valve and refilling the resovoir? I gonna get some lunch and try again later. thanks for the advice.

BTW, I did only the front pads for now and wonder if I have to bleed the back shoes?

I'm curious why you disconnected the brake line to do the pads. You should have just been able to slide them out the back.

Bleeding is generally a 2 person job. One to pump the pedal, and one to open and close the bleeder valve to let the air out. You can buy some simple bleeding aids at any parts store as well.

As long as you don't let the master cylider run out of fluid, your rear brakes will not need to be bled.

I had to pound out the pins that keep the pads aligned. They had so much rust that it took me a while to get them off. Unfortunately I couldn't get enough power to hit the pins out from the inside of the wheel well (even with a had sledge). Thanks for the advice. Been 30 years since I bled a line with my dad when I was a kid, now waiting for the wife!

Motive Power Bleeder

Get the Motive Power Bleeder (around $50) with the universal cap (around $15 extra if it's not part of the kit).

Works great, single person bleeding & great for a complete fluid flush, no air in the lines on the first shot.

Good luck, Gordo

Stick a piece of vacuum line over the bleeder and feed it into a coffee can with brake fluid in it. Then pump your pedal. Air will get pushed out and only fluid will re-enter the system. One man job for about 15 ecnts.

the power bleeder concept is great

you can make your own with a garden sprayer if you're the kind that likes to build the tool you could buy for marginally more. i did it, but i haven't tried making a cap that will work on the land cruiser. probably just buy one from motive
